TITLE OF THESIS: Carbon Footprints and Sustainable Solutions for Potato Cultivation on Prince Edward Island

Soil organic matter (SOM) is pivotal in sustainable agriculture, soil health, and crop productivity. This study evaluated twelve cover crops and three soil amendments for their use in sustainable and environmentally friendly farming. The specific objectives were to i) examine the effect of various cover crops on accumulation of SOM under controlled conditions, ii) investigate the performance of the four selected cover crops with different tillage methods to improve soil health under field conditions of Prince Edward Island (PEI), and iii) explore the impact of organic and inorganic soil amendments on carbon sequestration, soil health parameters, and CO2 emissions from soils of PEI under long-term potato cultivation.

For a complete abstract, see the 69传媒calendar entry.

The presentation will be presented via a web conference.  Anyone who wishes to attend the public presentation please RSVP to gsc@upei.ca to receive the link to the meeting.

  • The Wanda Wyatt Dining Hall will remain open regular hours but will be restricted to 69传媒residents only. Tables will be limited to two people max.

Stay safe, Panthers! Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation.

We usually see an increase in traffic at the 69传媒Campus Food Bank in November and a pandemic year is no different. In September and October, we welcomed 200 students monthly. November saw an increase of close to 100 visits. Seasonal schedule changes and bubbles bursting in December leave several people nervous about food security. Stocking up is a common practice.

While you are already out shopping, why not add a few items to your shipping cart? Popular items are peanut butter, tuna, rice, pasta, spices, cereal, canned and frozen vegetable and fruit. An added candy cane or chocolate Santa treats are welcome also!

We are happy to arrange pick up at your campus work place if that helps! Work areas are coordinating efforts for food drive, Christmas stockings, and other surprises. I am an email away if you have questions or donation ideas.

Thanks to ITSS for our new phone and an app for contact tracing. Thanks to the Applied Human Science Society for weekly drop offs of baked goods. Thanks to our many volunteers who are present to our students each time we open.  And thanks to the many who designated their Giving Tuesday gift to the 69传媒Campus Food Bank.
