Campus Notices

Attention All 69´«Ã½Students

Online learning and the COVID-19 pandemic have created new challenges for students pursuing post-secondary education. To support our students in overcoming these challenges, Student Affairs will be hosting a series of workshops during the Winter 2021 semester.

We are asking for student feedback to identify topics and skills for these workshops. To have your voice heard, please complete this short five-minute survey by January 15, 2021:

Thank-you!

With gratitude and humility, we dare ask again for volunteers for the 69´«Ã½Campus Food Bank. We have posted the sign up sheet for January and February as the pandemic is teaching us smaller time frames are more helpful to adjust as we go. On and off campus donations have kept our shelves well stocked and gift cards are also appreciated by those who come.

Food bank hours will remain the same this semester: Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 am–12 noon (divided into two slots) and Wednesday evening from 7-–8 pm. Volunteers are asked to come 15 minutes before opening and stay 15 minutes after closing, and commit 75 minutes for Tuesdays/Thursdays or 90 minutes on Wednesdays. Last semester we had a particular need for volunteers to help on Wednesday evening.  Each week, a reminder message with a few "Helpful Hints"  is sent to volunteers.

Please be advised that the Government of Canada is once again sponsoring the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program designed to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. To support employers through a period of economic recovery, temporary flexibilities will be offered for CSJ 2021 to respond to the needs of employers and youth.

Applicants will be able to seek funding to hire youth between April 26, 2021 and February 26, 2022. While employers are encouraged to offer quality jobs on a full-time basis (35 hours per week), part-time jobs (minimum of 12 hours per week) will also be eligible for funding. This flexibility was introduced to enable hiring of youth outside of the summer period.

Approved public and private sector employers will be eligible to receive a wage subsidy reimbursement of up to 75% of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage—in PEI the minimum hourly wage will be $13.00. For additional information and application information for this program please click

To apply for this program you will need to contact Michelle Massiah, Human Resources, mmassiah@upei.ca or 902-628-4306. The closing date for applications is January 25, 2021.

In this session, we will go over the importance of course-intro videos in preparation for the Winter 2021 Semester. This includes what should be covered in your course-intro video and a few simple ways you can create these videos on your own. This session will be hosted online with limited spaces. Contact kmckinney@upei.ca for more information.

Those interested in mentoring a team should email hwm_startups@upei.ca no later than Friday, January 8.

Please share this information with your network if you know of any potential mentors from 69´«Ã½and/or the local community.
