The Robertson Library鈥檚 is accepting grant applications for the creation or adaptation of open educational resources (OERs). The grant types include:

  • Open Textbook Grant: up to $6000
    • the development of a new open textbook on a topic that is currently not covered by an existing open textbook; 
  • Open Textbook Adaptation Grant: up to $4,000
    • the adaptation of one or more open textbooks to create a new version or edition of an open textbook (i.e. a Canadian edition of an existing open textbook);
  • Supplementary Resources Grant: up to $2,000
    • the creation of ancillary materials for existing open textbooks, including, but not limited to test banks, slide decks, or interactive media, etc.

Applications that support first year courses will be given priority as they reach the most amount of students, but all applications will be reviewed and considered. The deadline for applications is Friday, March 25, 2022, with work expected to begin during Spring or Summer. More information is available at .

The 69传媒E-Learning Office and the Teaching and Learning Centre are hosting UPEI's fifth Teaching Community Conference online on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. This year's theme is Moving Forward

The call for proposals on presentations about your teaching or how you support teaching at 69传媒is now open with a deadline of Thursday, April 14.

 

We are excited to invite graduate students to our session tailored to answer frequently asked questions about teaching dossiers for an academic job search, as part of the Academic Instructional Skills Program.  If you supervise graduate students, encourage them to 1) self-enroll in the AISP courses on  and  AND 2) register now for our session focused on preparing a teaching dossier as part of an academic job search slated for Friday, February 11, at 1:00 pm

 

Charlottetown City Police has advised 69传媒that there will be a slow-rolling convoy-style protest in Charlottetown on Saturday, February 12, starting at 1 pm. Traffic disruptions may occur because of the protest, which could take several hours. The protest is expected to begin in the John Yeo Drive area and travel down University Avenue, past UPEI, to the Charlottetown cenotaph. The protesters will then turn left onto Grafton Street before dispersing at the Grafton Street and Riverside Drive intersection.

Course: Intro to Workplace Writing

Description: Learn how to write for the twenty-first century workplace. In this five-week Intro to Workplace Writing course, you鈥檒l learn tools and techniques for professional communication. As we navigate work in a digital age, with many operating in a work-from-home culture, you鈥檒l learn updated strategies for enhancing communication. Learn new team communication tools such as Slack, Asana, and Google Docs. Ensuring your message is heard and understood is critical for a smooth workflow. Take your emails into the digital age and learn updated email etiquette strategies鈥攚hat was acceptable ten years ago no longer is! Learn how to craft a message for an external audience vs an internal one, and employ effective content creation tools such as content calendars and style guides. Brush up on some basic grammar, learn how to recognize your own bias when crafting messages, and educate yourself with inclusive language best practises. Professional writer and editor Christine Gordon Manley will guide you through workplace communication 2.0 through weekly videos, short assignments, and virtual office hours.

Upon successful completion of the course material and all assignments, submitted on time to your facilitator, you will receive a digital badge and will have the beginnings of a portfolio of your work.

The 69传媒Experiential Education Department has just opened applications for the third round of work-integrated learning bursaries. Forty-five (45) bursaries valued at $1,000 and an additional thirty (30) bursaries valued at $1,500 have been created for students from targeted underrepresented groups who are taking part in work-integrated learning as part of their 69传媒coursework during the 2022 winter semester.

The deadline for animal care protocol submissions (new, renewal, or amendment) is Friday, March 4, for the March meeting.

Please note that as of June 1, 2020, all animal user protocols must be submitted through the . For new protocols, select "applications," and for renewal or amendment protocols, select "events."

Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month. The committee requires at least one month for processing applications.

Ethics protocols that involve "more than minimal risk" must be reviewed by the full 69传媒Research Ethics Board (REB). The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday, February 25, 2022.

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve "more than minimal risk," renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.

All research compliance applications, including Research Ethics Board application forms, must be submitted through the Researcher Portal. This online system is paired with electronic approvals to replace the hard-copy signatures process.

Information about the Researcher Portal, including instructions for using the site, is available at /research-services/forms. Contact researcherportal@upei.ca if you have any questions about accessing or using the Researcher Portal.

Please note that the IBC has instituted a new category of protocol amendment: Biosafety Permit Minor Amendment. This event form is included in the Researcher Portal.

Minor amendments which are strictly limited to changes in personnel and/or funding can be submitted at any time but require up to a two-week review period. They are normally reviewed by the IBC Chair or designate, the BSO or designate, and one other voting member of the IBC. If the amendment is approved, then an approval notification will be sent to the PI. Submissions via this route may be sent for full committee review at the discretion of the IBC Chair and BSO.  

All research compliance applications, including biosafety application forms, must be submitted through the Researcher Portal.

Three of UPEI鈥檚 3M National Teaching Fellows will be part of a panel leading a discussion on Lessons Learned from the Pandemic (so far!) on February 10, 2022, at 4:00 pm. Please note the NEW start time.

Kayla Geitzler, Moncton鈥檚 first anglophone Poet Laureate, and host of the Attic Owl Reading Series, will recite from her first book That Light Feeling Under Your Feet.

Jane Ledwell, Executive Director of the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women, will read from her book, Return of the Wild Goose.

Ali Ettarnichi, motivational speaker, international connector, and organizer of global summits, will share from his first book, Just A Cab Driver: My Journey from Behind the Wheel to Behind the Microphone.
