AVC currently has a male beagle named Tony available for adoption. He is five years old, neutered, and vaccinated; a dental cleaning will be included with his adoption. He is incredibly affectionate with humans and will make a great companion. We truly believe that he will blossom in the right home.

Tony has a history of being reactive to other animals, and he may or may not learn to move past this in the future. He has never bitten any other animals but does sometimes react aggressively towards certain other beagles. Currently, he is on medication to help with his anxiety. This may or may not need to be continued long-term or potentially life-long. He has had absolutely no issues with people. A once-monthly behavioural consultation will be included for a six-month term following adoption as well a three-month supply of medication.

Tony would thrive in a house with a family that is able to work through some behaviour modification (as outlined by our behaviourist). It is preferable that he is not placed in a home that has other pets or a family with which other pets are around often.

If you are interested in learning more about Tony, please contact Melissa Hamel at mhamel@upei.ca or 902-566-0938.

Presentation Title:  鈥淓ntrepreneur-Led Landscape Changes in Hocking Hills, Ohio: The Co-production of the Tourism Industry and Exurban Community鈥

Abstract:

Rural tourism is often regarded as a catalyst to stimulate economic growth in amenity-rich but underdeveloped regions. Much research to date has focused on developing a robust rural tourism industry separate from the evolution of the exurban community. Tourism entrepreneurs extend the market mechanisms to the traditionally non-monetary environmental and social contexts of the rural community by commercializing the natural and social heritage. Moreover, an increasingly commercialized landscape can co-produce both the tourism industry and the rural community simultaneously. Therefore, using Hocking Hills, Ohio, as an example to analyze tourism entrepreneurs鈥 business strategies and corresponding ways of capitalizing on resources, this research connects the long-standing paradigms of tourism development and community evolution and forges a new direction for interdisciplinary theoretical and empirical studies.

The presentation will take place on February 25 from 1:00--2:00pm (Atlantic Time) via the following Zoom link:
