In alignment with this year鈥檚 theme for Black History Month 鈥 Black Health and Wellbeing, the 69传媒EFAP provider, LifeWorks, is hosting a complimentary one-hour session titled A Day In The Life: The cost of wellbeing for Black identifying individuals.

"The cost of wellbeing for Black identifying individuals鈥 will explore many themes around the health and wellness systems, external environment, and self-care, and their impact on Black health.

The 69传媒Health, Safety and Environment Department (HSE) is offering Emergency and Standard First Aid/CPR training sessions in April, specific dates TBD.

This basic one-day course offers lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. 

Cost of registration will be covered by HSE for all 69传媒faculty and staff. Priority will be given to those who were originally scheduled to attend the December 17th session and First Aiders in each campus building who need to renew their certification. Please note that lunch will not be provided.

Take advantage of the change of pace during break week to grab your lunch and join Maria Steele from Research Services and Deidre Smith from Financial Services to learn more about managing a research budget on Wednesday, February 23, at 1:00 pm. Anyone with questions about research budgets is welcome to join. .

An information session regarding NSERC Alliance Grants will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 10:00-11:00 am via Zoom. The session will be presented by Shirine Jeradi, Manager - Research Partnerships, from the NSERC Atlantic Regional Office.

On June 1, 2021, eye protection became mandatory in all 69传媒laboratories. This includes Containment Level One and Containment Level Two laboratories that manipulate biohazardous materials, and laboratories in chemistry, physics, and engineering that handle materials other than biohazardous substances that could pose an ocular risk. At a minimum, safety glasses that meet the standards and specifications of CSA Standard Z94.3-20 are required. However, if a task presents a higher risk, then the laboratory supervisor is responsible for completing a workplace hazard risk assessment to identify appropriate eye and face protection, as necessary. Please visit Section 4.5 Eye and Face Protection in the on the 69传媒website for more information. The definition of "laboratory" is provided on page 3 of the manual.

鈥淔reedom to Read Week is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, which is guaranteed them under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms鈥 (). That includes having access to all reading materials.

Books, magazines, newspapers, and other materials are challenged in Canada and around the world all the time. The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling and The Handmaid鈥檚 Tale by Margaret Atwood are among those that have been challenged in Canada.

We encourage you to come to the Robertson Library and check out our selection of books that have been challenged in Canada in our Freedom to Read Week display. A description of where, when, and why the book was challenged is attached to each book.

Pick up a sheet (or a few) of the Freedom To Read word search puzzles and challenge yourself to find all the listed words in the puzzle.

And, don鈥檛 forget to share your favourite banned or challenged book.

PEI Community Reads is hosting a virtual event with Desmond Cole, author of The Skin We're In: A Year of Black Resistance and Power, on Wednesday, March 2,  at 7 pm. Yolanda Hood, of Robertson Library and an organizer of PEI Community Reads, and Tamara Steele, executive director of the Black Cultural Society of PEI, will moderate the event.

Course Information - Intro to Workplace Writing (Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development, UPEI)

Course: Intro to Workplace Writing

Description: Learn how to write for the twenty-first century workplace. In this five-week Intro to Workplace Writing course, you鈥檒l learn tools and techniques for professional communication. As we navigate work in a digital age, with many operating in a work-from-home culture, you鈥檒l learn updated strategies for enhancing communication. Learn new team communication tools such as Slack, Asana, and Google Docs. Ensuring your message is heard and understood is critical for a smooth workflow. Take your emails into the digital age and learn updated email etiquette strategies鈥攚hat was acceptable ten years ago no longer is! Learn how to craft a message for an external audience vs an internal one, and employ effective content creation tools such as content calendars and style guides. Brush up on some basic grammar, learn how to recognize your own bias when crafting messages, and educate yourself with inclusive language best practises. Professional writer and editor Christine Gordon Manley will guide you through workplace communication 2.0 through weekly videos, short assignments, and virtual office hours.

Upon successful completion of the course material and all assignments, submitted on time to your facilitator, you will receive a digital badge and will have the beginnings of a portfolio of your work.
