69´«Ã½vocal major and Islander Olivia Barnes will take to the stage for her Senior Recital, on Tuesday, April 7 at 7:30 pm, at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, with piano accompaniment by Frances McBurnie. Graduating in May, Olivia is in the final semester of her fourth year and studies with Professor Sung Ha Shin-Bouey. Olivia will present an eclectic mix of music including Schumann, Bernstein, Poulenc, Bach, Gluck and Novello. Admission is free and a reception will be held following the performance.

The 69´«Ã½Jazz Ensemble will present their spring concert on Tuesday, March 31 at 7:30 pm at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, UPEI. Under the direction of David Shephard the band will once again be joined by singers from the 69´«Ã½vocal studio. Featured vocalists will be Olivia Barnes, Alexandra Smith, Leah Inman, Travis Boudreau, Jillian Clow and Parker Clements. Band members who will be featured as soloists are trombonist Dan MacDonald on Someone to Watch Over Me and saxophonist Emily Proude will be the soloist on the jazz standard Lover Man. Other tunes will include When You’re Smilin’, Mack the Knife, Send in the Clowns, Somewhere from West Side Story and hits from the 1970’s Knock on Wood and Send in the Clowns. Admission is $10 for adults and seniors/$5 for students. Tickets are available at the door or online at or by calling 902-566-0507.
Donna R. MacCormac will present her Master of Education Thesis Defence on Thursday, April 2 at 10:00 am in Memorial Hall, room 308. The title of her thesis is: "On Writing and Transformation: One story at a time." All are welcome to attend.

A group of graduate students in Dr. Tess Miller’s Quantitative Statistics course will present their findings from a broad-reaching survey of Islanders about social promotion, large-scale assessment, the role of parents in education, mathematics, aboriginal culture, and leadership.
Pablo Bianucci, Department of Physics, Concordia University will present a lecture on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 2:00 pm. The presentation is entitled “Tightly Squeezing Light in Small Spaces?" The seminar will be held in the Duffy Science Centre, room 204. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Spring Daffodil Sales to support the Canadian Cancer Society are available at UPEI. Bunches of 10 daffodils are $8. Bunches can be purchased by stopping by Kelley Building, room 205 and visiting either Bernadette or Kathryn between 8:30 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 - 4:30 pm on Wednesday, March 25 and Thursday, March 26. They will also be sold (pending availability) in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre from 12:00-1:00 pm on Wednesday and Thursday. Daffodils are a great way to brighten your day and support a great cause. Cheer on your friends as they try to cram years of learning into three minutes! The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a skills development activity which challenges thesis-based graduate students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. The competition is Thursday, March 26 at 7 pm in the Wave. First place wins $200 and a trip to Concordia University to compete in the Regional 3MT. Second place wins $100. Third place wins $50. Jan Coffin, Strategic Research Initiatives Manager, and Dr. William Whelan, professor of physics, will be honoured in thanks for their work to help promote the community of research and discovery at UPEI. . The Katherine Schultz Research Recognition Awards were created out of a gift received from Dr. Katherine Schultz, UPEI’s first Vice-President Research. Under her tenure from 2001 to 2012, 69´«Ã½enjoyed a seven-fold increase in research funding and intensity. A small reception will follow.

The Environmental Studies and Physics department are sponsoring a showing of the "Passive House Revolution" Documentary (45 min) and hosting a Q&A panel with local Passive House owners, builders and a representative from the Office of Energy Efficiency of PEI on Thursday, March 26 from 7:00-9:00 pm (storm date, Wednesday, April 1) in AVC, Lecture Theatre A. This event is open to the general public.
