The academic planning process is meant to build on the reflection, wayfinding, and planning that began with the work done on the 69传媒Strategic Plan. The Academic Planning Group is currently in its fifth month of work since being created by Senate. We are currently still collecting data through public consultation and reviews being conducted by programs on campus. We expect to present our plan to Senate for the first Senate Meeting of the 2015-2016 academic year in September 2015. The Academic Plan that is shaping up from our analysis of the data and from our deliberations is both about setting goals for our institution and about taking a practical look at the work that needs to be done to make 69传媒an even better place to live and learn. We used the directions listed in the strategic plan as our starting point and will be using our various feedback mechanisms to contextualize those directions and uncover new and interesting directions for our university. In the coming months, we encourage you to participate in the academic planning process, both during formal events and through direct communication with any of the members of the committee. Each item of feedback will be considered in the development of the Academic Plan. We are working towards a plan that we can use to help shape our future directions and make real immediate change to our University. Public consultations will occur in the Robertson Library "Sun Room". Signage by the stairs in the Robertson Library will direct you to the room on the second floor. April 7, 2015, from 2:30 - 4:00 pm April 8, 2015 from 3:30 - 5:00 pm During these consultations, we will consider some of the more complex elements and shape the document accordingly. Drs. Peter Koritansky and Malcolm Murray from the 69传媒Philosophy department will debate the question: "Does God Exist," and if so, what is the best argument for God's existence? Dr. Koritansky will be taking the affirmative position, that God exists with the cosmological argument as his justification. Dr. Murray will be taking the negative position, affirming that belief in God has no rational basis. Come and vote for the winner of the argument! The debate takes place Friday, April 10 at 6:30 pm in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium (Room 242), Don and Marion McDougall Hall. Doors open at 6:00 pm. All are welcome.
On Tuesday, April 7, Louise Roux, Department of Biomedical Sciences, will present "Effect of water temperature on the immune response of American lobster (Homarus americanus) and the pathogenicity of White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV)" while Walaa Nasry, Department of Pathology and Microbiology, will present "Investigating the relationship between inflammation and CD147 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC)". The seminar begins at 3:30 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre C. Everyone is welcome.
Department Heads and Chairs are reminded that the University's fiscal year-end is April 30, 2015. To ensure that 2014-15 expenditures are recorded in the 2014-15 operating budget, all external requisitions (both electronic and hard copy) to be processed for purchase orders must be received by the Procurement Services office no later than 12 noon Friday, April 24, 2015. Our auditors require that goods charged to the 2014-15 budget must be both invoiced and received on or before April 30, 2015 and as such, requisitions will be reviewed for acceptability prior to the April 24, 2015 final cut-off date. Goods invoiced or received after April 30, 2015 will be charged to the next fiscal year (2015-16). The April 24, 2015 cut-off date will be strictly enforced, so please make your plans now for the remaining weeks of the 2014-15 fiscal year. Hours worked and approved for the month of April will be charged to the 2014-15 fiscal year for students and other hourly-rate employees. All faculty members planning to attend Convocation 2015 and participate in the procession are asked to email Eileen Kinch by April 17, 2015 in order to confirm seating: kinch@upei.ca Faculty must also register online to order academic hoods and gowns through Gaspard Gown Service. The cost to rent convocation regalia is $25.00 + taxes. Prepaid regalia can be picked up on Friday, May 8 from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and on Saturday, May 9 starting at 8:00 am at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre, room 114, upon presentation of a 69传媒ID and the Gaspard online confirmation form. The 69传媒International Relations Office is hosting its annual Tax Clinics every weekday until April 24. The purpose of these clinics is to serve 69传媒students by helping them file their Canadian income tax return FREE of charge. A number of student volunteers have been well-trained to assist students. The following documents are required to file your taxes: - A copy of your 2014 T2202A (official tuition receipt), which can be printed off from your campus login - Your T4 slip (employment income statement) if you worked in 2014 - Your social insurance number (SIN number) - A void cheque with your banking information if you would like to request direct deposit - A flash/USB drive to save your income tax return The current schedule for the clinics, with names of volunteers can be found on the below link. Dr. Shiori Arai will be interviewing for one of two open, tenure-track faculty positions in small animal surgery in the Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College on Tuesday, March 31 at 12:30 pm in AVC, Lecture Theatre A. The title of the seminar is: 鈥淪urgical Approaches to the Thoracic Cavity.鈥 She graduated with a BSc. from the Tokyo University of Agriculture in 1998; received her DVM from Azabu University School of Veterinary Medicine, Kanagawa, Japan in 2003 and a PhD from Colorado State University in 2009. In 2012 she joined the Department of Companion Animals and is finishing the final year of her Surgery Residency Program. As part of the interview process, Dr. Arai has been asked to present a 50-minute lecture suitable for third year DVM students. Any interested faculty/staff are invited to attend.
