Going on vacation soon? DYKT you can use safe Wi-Fi that is already configured on your device? 69传媒uses eduroam to deliver Wi-Fi on campus, but eduroam is part of a worldwide network (education + roaming = eduroam). There are more than 10,000 hotspots at schools, universities, museums, etc., in more than 100 countries. When you register your device with eduroam at UPEI, you will automatically connect to the encrypted Wi-Fi when you're in range of eduroam--no sign-in necessary.

The Robertson Library invites members of the campus community 鈥� students, faculty, and staff 鈥� to attend a virtual presentation by Emily Dafoe, candidate for the permanent-track position of Instructional Services Librarian (position posting), on Tuesday, July 19.
At 11 a.m, Ms. Dafoe will address the topic, "Information Literacy at UPEI: Strategies for engaging today's students in first year and beyond." The PEI Pride Festival Week, July 16鈥�24, 2022, celebrates the diversity of gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression. This year鈥檚 festival includes a number of events across the Island, including the Pride Parade on Saturday, July 23, winding through the streets of downtown Charlottetown. 鈥淭he PEI Pride Festival has evolved from a political march for equal rights to a celebration of the Island鈥檚 2SLGBTQIA+ community.鈥�
The newer 鈥淧rogress鈥� Pride flag is a combination of the traditional Pride flag with a redesign incorporating elements to bring focus on inclusion and progress within the community.
Designed by Daniel Quasar, a Portland, Oregon-based graphic designer who identifies as queer and non-binary, it includes black and brown stripes to represent Black, Indigenous, and people of colour; and light blue, pink, and white stripes to represent the transgender community, and those living with HIV/AIDS (and those no longer living).
Check out our current book display in the foyer of the Library, showcasing 2SLGBTQIA+ authors and books on the history of gay rights and related civil rights movements. Books in the display are available for checkout.

Overview: The New Managers Certificate program is designed for those who are new to the manager/supervisor role or aspire to be a manager/supervisor. In this certificate program, the following topics will be explored in-depth: personal leadership styles, communication, strategic thinking, change management, performance management, creating effective teams, managing conflict, and cultural awareness in the workplace. After the completion of this certificate, participants will have the tools, techniques, and confidence to provide effective leadership within the workplace.
This program is designed for people who have just become a manager or supervisor, or are interested in becoming a manager and/or a supervisor, within either the public and private sector.

The School of Climate Change and Adaptation is interviewing three candidates for two 10-month term positions. Each candidate is invited to provide a teaching seminar and a research presentation to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Dr. Randal Arsenault, July 12, 2022
Dr. Arsenault teaches at the University of Calgary and holds a PhD from the Centre for African Ecology and a master of natural resources management degree. His research is focused on promoting global citizenship in Canadian post-secondary students, and addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals on climate change, poverty, and managing terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

Dr. Alaba Boluwade, July 14, 2022
Dr. Boluwade graduated as the highest-ranking student in his engineering class and later obtained a master鈥檚 in soil and water conservation engineering. He also holds a joint master鈥檚 degree in geospatial technologies from the Institute of Geoinformatics, University of Muenster, Germany; the University of Juame I, Spain; and the Instituto Superior de Estat铆stica e Gest茫o de Informa莽茫o, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, as well as a Ph.D. in bioresource engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He is a member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (P.Eng) and a Chartered Engineer (CPEng) with Engineer Australia (specializations in civil engineering, environmental engineering, leadership, and management). Previously, he was an assistant professor at the Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman. Dr. Boluwade has more than 20 years of professional experience in North America, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. To polish his educational leadership skills, he obtained a leadership principal certificate from Harvard Business School in 2021. Dr. Boluwade is currently completing an MBA (expected July 2022) from the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Canada.

Dr. Pelin Kinay, July 15, 2022
Dr. Kinay鈥檚 primary research interests are climate change and associated impacts on human health with an adaptation focus. She is interested in the nature of climates, whether local, regional, or global, as well as the natural and human-caused variables that influence climate change and human health. Dr. Kinay has a solid background in looking into the mechanisms that lead to efficient climate adaptation. While her interest in vulnerable populations and climate change and health consequences is developing, she is integrating her research into nature-based solutions and climate change adaptation by looking into different regions, while considering the health impacts of climate extremes with an interdisciplinary approach. She is currently planning to conduct research on Indigenous peoples' perspectives on climate change, adaptation strategies, and potential health effects related to climate change in Atlantic Canada. She is particularly interested in Indigenous knowledge regarding methods of coping with and adapting to climate change. According to Dr. Kinay, traditional knowledge and practices are valued more and more and should be properly considered in climate change science and other scientific research. Additionally, with a focus on cardiovascular biomarkers, Dr. Kinay is pursuing other research on the health effects of exposure to green space and climate change. Her various interdisciplinary projects aim to examine various demographic groups in various regions, considering the implications of mental and physical health and the linkages between urbanization and climate change.

Summer is here, which is great for us but not so great for our electronics. Direct sunlight can overheat them. If you have to work outdoors, keep your laptop or phone out of the sun. Staying in the shade will drop the ambient temperature.
Do you keep your laptop in the car while you run errands? If the answer is yes, then shut it off. Even if the screen is dark or it's in sleep mode, power is still running through the circuits. When the laptop is shut off, it has a chance to cool and is not generating heat while in storage.
If your phone overheats and shuts off, wait for it to cool. If you try to turn it on immediately, its internal components may be damaged and its life span shortened.
As a partner, a sports venue, and the Athletes' Village for the 2023 Canada Winter Games, 69传媒is excited, along with the Canada Winter Games Host Society, to promote the 2023 Canada Winter Games Torch Relay.
Prior to every Canada Games, a Torch Relay takes place that sees the Roly McLenahan Canada Games Torch travel part of the country as it makes its way to the host city/province for the opening ceremony. Ceremoniously lit from the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill, the Roly McLenahan Torch will ignite the official Games flame during the opening ceremony.
In keeping true with this time-honoured Canada Games tradition, the PEI 2023 Canada Winter Games will begin its Torch Relay on October 17, 2022, with a lighting ceremony on Parliament Hill before heading to Prince Edward Island. The Torch Relay will visit over 20 communities across PEI and engage with local residents through a series of Torch Relay events and community celebrations, with various Torchbearers carrying the torch.
After arriving in PEI and traveling from tip-to-tip, the torch will make its way to Eastlink Centre on February 18, 2023, for the opening ceremony of the 2023 Canada Winter Games, where it will light the cauldron and officially ignite the competition.
The call for nominations to become a torchbearer in the upcoming 2023 Canada Games Torch Relay is now open! The Host Society values all differences and encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds and abilities. Please complete the to nominate yourself or a fellow community member to be a Torchbearer in the 2023 Canada Winter Games Torch Relay. Please complete and submit the online form by 5 pm ADT on July 15, 2022.

Join your fellow colleagues for the 2nd annual meeting of the 69传媒Plant Pals TOMORROW, Tuesday, July 12, from noon to 1 pm in the campus quad. Trade plants and trimmings with other staff and faculty, finally repot that office plant outgrowing its container, or offer up slips/cuttings to folks looking to spruce up their new office spaces!
