Artificial Intelligence techniques like machine and deep learning are introducing automation to the products we build and the solutions we develop. These techniques are being used to solve complex problems related to images, signals, text, and controls in various domains. In this hands-on virtual lab, we will use MATLAB Online to explore, analyze, and solve exercises related to Biomedical Image data sets using Image Processing and AI techniques. The exercises will include:

  • Complete workflows with image processing apps
  • Image segmentation, analysis, and morphology
  • Train deep neural networks on GPUs in the cloud.
  • Create deep learning models from scratch for image and signal data.
  • Explore pre-trained models and use transfer learning

Overview: All Canadians are called to learn about Canada’s relationship with Indigenous peoples and how we can move forward in reconciliation and restitution. In the Indigenous Cultural Awareness course, facilitator Julie Pellissier-Lush, author, actor, engaged community member, educator of Mi’kmaq culture and heritage, and Poet Laureate of Prince Edward Island, will highlight and explain in-depth the traditional knowledge of the Mi’kmaq (the Indigenous peoples of Mi’kma’ki, and specifically Epetwitk), their life before contact with Europeans, the impact of colonization on the Mi’kmaq, and how all Canadians can move forward positively with Indigenous peoples. This will be done in a fun way that will focus on participants feeling safe in the learning circle provided and ensure all taking part in the course will leave with a greater knowledge of traditional Mi’kmaq teachings and history, and how to engage and grow through truth, reconciliation, and restitution.  

Designed for: Anybody, from employees to executives, managers and entrepreneurs, who wish to learn about the traditional ways and knowledge of Indigenous – specifically Mi’kmaq – people, their journey, and how all Canadians can move forward positively in terms of truth, reconciliation, and restitution with Indigenous peoples

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. 69´«Ã½will be offering its next ASIST workshop on Wednesday, June 22, and Thursday, June 23. This workshop has a limited capacity, and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. All other interested contacts will be included for future ASIST sessions. If you're formatting something more than basic paragraphs, like a resume, the "¶" symbol is your friend. This shows you every line break in your document, which is an easy way to make sure all your spacing is correct and consistent, and looks professional.

You can find the "Show/Hide ¶" button in the "Paragraph Settings" toolbar, which by default is at the top of the screen in the "Home" tab. It might just look like a ¶ symbol.

  • Accessing data from many sources (files, other software, hardware, etc.)
  • Using interactive tools for iterative exploration, design, and problem-solving
  • Automating and capturing your work in easy-to-write scripts and programs
  • Sharing your results with others by automatically creating reports

Path2Innovation (P2I) is a three-day program that explores the value of entrepreneurial thinking as a means of developing careers and research of leading graduate students, post-docs, and faculty, and also advancing their research, innovations, and ideas into impacts, whether that be scientific, economic, social, cultural, or environmental. The workshop has been designed to be a precursor to the  program, arming participants with the knowledge needed to start down the path to commercializing their research.

P2I is run as a virtual workshop and is open to graduate students, faculty, and post-doctoral fellows throughout Atlantic Canada. This program is fully funded by the Government of Canada through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and provided to students free of charge.

 The next cohort is scheduled for June 27,28, and 29 2022. Application deadline is June 20th.

Troy Life & Fire Safety will perform the annual fire alarm inspections throughout campus beginning Tuesday, June 14, 2022. As part of these inspections, there will be testing of alarms. There will be an audible notification stating "This is a test" at the beginning and the end of each test. The building occupants are not required to evacuate during the testing period. The ringing of alarms is required to test their function and to ensure the speakers work throughout the building. This will be a small portion (up to 2 hours) of the total time they are in the building.

There has been extensive media coverage regarding the presence of avian influenza in wild birds in Atlantic Canada. It has also been discovered that avian influenza is affecting foxes, with symptoms that may look like distemper or rabies.

The 69´«Ã½Health, Safety, and Environment office is advising members of the campus community to not handle any dead, injured, or sick wildlife on campus or elsewhere.  

If you find an injured, sick, or dead wild animal, please contact either PEI Fish and Wildlife (902-368-4683) or the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (902-628-4314).

The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions (new, renewal, or amendment) is Monday, July 4, for the July meeting.
