A friendly reminder that 69´«Ã½staff, faculty, and community members do not have access to the Sports Centre/Fitness Centre during the Canada Games from February 18 to March 5. Only full-time 69´«Ã½students can have access to the Fitness Centre along with Canada Games athletes.

Are you a chief warden, floor warden, or guardian for your building? Do you know what to do if there is a building evacuation? Do you have questions about your role as a warden or guardian or the evacuation procedures for your building?

69´«Ã½Health, Safety, and Environment will hold a building emergency plan session for chief wardens, floor wardens, and guardians on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 10:15 am in Andrew Hall Room 142. The session should only take 30 minutes.

Overview: The Adult Learner - Course Design and Facilitation Certificate offers a comprehensive introduction to the field of adult learning for individuals who want to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to design and deliver effective and engaging adult training programs. Participants will develop new insights and techniques that will strengthen their training content and approach, learn about designing curriculum to match diverse learning styles (including in-person and online facilitation), organize engaging experiential activities that ensure the achievement of learning objectives, and deliver peer-reviewed interactive training content and facilitation sessions.

Designed for: People who are interested in becoming or improving as facilitators, trainers, consultants, subject matter experts, adult educators, human resource personnel, contract workers, tutors, or similar positions

Type of Delivery: In-person

Duration: Six modules for a total of 48 hours; four modules last one day (six hours each), and two modules last two days (twelve hours each)

Join us on March 21 at 7:00 pm for an Island Lecture Series presentation by marine ecologist Dr. Irené Novaczek on the ecosystem restoration project at Basin Head. Basin Head was designated as a  under the Oceans Act in 2005, to conserve and protect a unique strain of Irish moss (Chondrus crispus) which is thought to exist only within the confines of Basin Head.

The talk will focus on adaptive management of the marine protected area to ensure that the unique giant form of Irish moss at Basin Head is able to survive in the coastal lagoon environment, which is challenged by the impact of local agriculture, invasive European green crabs, and ongoing climate changes.

69´«Ã½is taking part in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) again this semester. The survey collects important information on students' participation in programs and activities and their perceptions of personal growth and university support. Results from the survey will be used to improve student experiences. 

Many first-year and fourth-year students in Arts, Business, Engineering, Nursing, and Science have been invited to fill out the survey. Students are encouraged to check their 69´«Ã½email for the invitation and complete the survey. The deadline to nominate a student for the new 69´«Ã½Alumni Association Panther for Life Spirit Award  is Tuesday, February 28, at 4 pm!

This award is given to a current 69´«Ã½student (of no particular standing), who exemplifies true Panther pride inside and outside of the classroom. This individual has contributed to the campus community in a meaningful way, whether it be through their volunteerism, participation in UPEI-related events and activities, support of Panther sport, or any other significant way, that makes them a strong ambassador for UPEI, both now and as a future Panther alumni.

The recipient will receive an engraved award and a $500 cash prize and will be recognized during a celebratory student event.

Any student, staff, or faculty member may submit nominations for this award. Nominations must be received by February 28 at 4 pm to be considered for 2023.

69´«Ã½annually acknowledges individuals for their outstanding contributions to the success of the University. The awards are valued at $1,000 each and given in recognition of excellence of faculty, librarians, clinical veterinary professionals, clinical nursing instructors, sessional instructors, and staff.

These awards will be presented during a Celebration of Colleagues to be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. 

Nominations are open and must be submitted to universityawards@upei.ca by the last Friday in February each year. This year, nominations close on Friday, February 24.
