Don't be scared of the cloud.

You鈥檙e most likely familiar with old-fashioned types of object storage that involve storing files and other data on your computer. The content you鈥檙e saving is stored on the physical drive or a removable storage media such as an external hard drive or a USB drive. These methods have downsides:

  • Your data is vulnerable to both internal and external tampering.
  • Once your data is gone, you can never get it back

Keeping files in a cloud is an easy way to ensure that you have access to them no matter what device you鈥檙e using. It鈥檚 also a handy way to back up important files. There are lots of cloud programs that will give you some amount of free storage space. Google Drive and Microsoft One Drive are two that we are most familiar with. But remember that you still need a strong password and MFA!

Cloud storage services make it really easy to share files and folders, but you should be careful about how you do this. Manage the access of the shared files, add expiry dates to all the shares, and, of course, be careful about what you share and who you share it with.
