AVC’s Dr. Darcy Shaw receives Distinguished Member Award at CVMA Convention in Calgary

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at 69´«Ã½is proud to announce that Dr. Darcy Shaw, professor emeritus, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, is the recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Member Award awarded by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA). The award was presented at the CVMA convention held in Calgary, Alberta, on June 26.

CWHC monitoring bat populations in Atlantic Canada

The weather is warm, the insects are out, and our friendly neighbourhood bats have been getting cozy in their summer roosts.

The Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC), Atlantic Region at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), 69´«Ã½ (UPEI), is working with the Government of Prince Edward Island’s (PEI) Fish and Wildlife Division to help monitor one of our elusive resident bat species: the Northern Myotis. 

Personal Training Policies

  • Only 69´«Ã½personal trainers are permitted to assess or train individuals and athletes in the 69´«Ã½Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. Any other trainers who act in the capacity of a personal trainer are not permitted. This includes one-on-one instruction, exercise prescription, modification, technique instruction, and any job function typically associated with personal training or working with members of the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre.  
  • No refunds will be issued for services purchased. 
  • Cancellations MUST be made 24 hours in advance to reschedule the session.

Phone/Camera Use Policy

  • For the protection and privacy of all students, members, facility users and guests, please follow cell phone and videotaping guidelines. 
  • The use of photographic equipment such as cameras and video equipment are prohibited in changing rooms and washrooms. This includes cell phones and all devices with photographic capabilities. Limit use to hallways and lobbies.
  • No taking photos or video permitted in the fitness centre.
  • Failure to comply may result in the suspension of your membership and may include possible further disciplinary sanctions.

Suspensions

Failure to follow rules and regulations may result in suspended or revoked membership privileges. Suspensions will be based on administration judgement and can range from one day to one year.

Gymnasium and Indoor Track Guidelines

  • Appropriate indoor footwear required (non-marking indoor sneakers). NO outdoor footwear permitted (this includes sandals, bare feet, socks, boots, etc.). 
  • Clothing and bags must be properly stored in the main locker rooms or lockers located in second floor lobby. Locks are not provided.  
  • NO loitering on the track (i.e., sitting/standing on track area).  
  • NO spectators permitted during intramurals or general use of gymnasium. Standing at rails is only permitted during varsity games and/or major events when the track is closed to users. 

Fitness Centre Guidelines and Gym Etiquette

  • Sneakers required. No bare feet, sock feet, or sandals permitted.
  • No bags, purses, coats, jackets, etc. in the fitness centre.   
  • Please re-rack weights and plates.
  • Weight collars must be used.
  • Powered chalk not permitted. Liquid chalk is permitted.
  • Do not slam weights, medicine balls, or barbells on the floor.
  • No scented colognes or perfumes are permitted on campus as per UPEI’s Scent-Free Policy.
  • Food and drink are not permitted, except for liquids in a closed container.

Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre Gymnasium, Fitness Centre, Track and Squash Courts: General Rules of Use

  • All facility users must use their campus ID/membership card at Panther Central turnstile and the Fitness Centre turnstile (if using the fitness centre) and when signing out equipment.
  • CARD SWAPPING - Fraudulent use of a membership card is prohibited. This will result in immediate suspension and loss of membership privileges.
