69传媒Faculty of IKERAS celebrates another historic milestone

The 69传媒Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies (IKERAS) recently hosted its first-ever Indigenous traditional knowledge sharing and learning day, Mawi-lukutimk, which means 鈥済athering and working together.鈥 The event took place on September 3, two years after the Faculty of IKERAS began delivering UPEI鈥檚 mandated IKE 1040: Indigenous Teachings course and offering a Minor in Indigenous Studies. It is considered a historic milestone by everyone involved.

69传媒leads $6.93 million precision agriculture research project to mitigate climate change

A team of researchers from across Canada, led by Dr. Aitazaz Farooque, professor and interim associate dean of the 69传媒School of Climate Change and Adaptation, has received $6.93 million in federal funding to develop precision agriculture techniques to ensure food security and mitigate climate change.

As the old expression says, 鈥渢ime flies.鈥 As we approach the beginning of the fall semester, you may recall that on July 18, I sent a message that included several themes that emerged from town halls held earlier in the month. At the time, I indicated we would have many more opportunities to move our discussions along.

69传媒increases support for graduate students through new fellowship program

UPEI鈥檚 Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) is establishing a new fellowship program for incoming and existing graduate students in research thesis-based graduate programs.

鈥淐ompetitive financial support is an important factor in the recruitment and retention of graduate students at UPEI,鈥 said Dr. Greg Naterer, vice-president, academic and research. 鈥淕raduate assistantships and supervisor grant/contract funding provide a common form of graduate student support. In addition, graduate fellowships have a significant role.鈥

Rathlyn Foundation donates $1M for entrance scholarships to UPEI-based medical students

Beginning in the fall of 2025, the Rathlyn Foundation Entrance Scholarships for 69传媒Medical Students will be granted to every UPEI-based medical student in their first year of study. These $2,000 individual scholarships will be funded in perpetuity by an overall gift of $1,000,000 from the Rathlyn Foundation.
