Department Heads and Chairs are reminded that the University's fiscal year-end is April 30, 2014. To ensure that 2013-14 expenditures are recorded in the 2013-14 operating budget, all external requisitions (both electronic and hard copy) to be processed for purchase orders must be received by the Procurement Services office no later than 12 noon Friday, April 25, 2014. Our auditors require that goods charged to the 2013-14 budget must be both invoiced and received on or before April 30, 2014. Requisitions will be reviewed for acceptability prior to the April 25, 2014 final cut-off date. - Goods invoiced or received after April 30, 2014 will be charged to the next fiscal year (2014-15). The April 25, 2014 cut-off date will be strictly enforced, so please make your plans now for the remaining weeks of the 2013-14 fiscal year. - Hours worked and approved for the month of April will be charged to the 2013-14 fiscal year for students and other hourly-rate employees. At the Chaplaincy Centre thoughts are with the students during exam time, their success, and yes, of course, the chili dinner. On Wednesday, April 9 and Thursday, April 10 between 11:30 am–1:30 pm, a chili dinner will be served at the Chaplaincy Centre, free for 69´«Ã½students. About 300 students show up each day with smiles and conversation on this busy week. We are looking for faculty and staff to help out and provide encouragement for students on their exams. If you are able to volunteer some time, sign up here:

Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in town hall meetings for an academic planning initiative lead by the Curriculum Planning Committee. The meetings will focus on the draft program evaluation instrument, guiding principles and proposed planning process. We need to hear your ideas on the best path for 69´«Ã½to achieve a well structured academic plan. The meeting schedule is as follows: April 7 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm April 8 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm April 15 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm All meetings will be held in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, in the Alex H. MacKinnnon Auditorium (room 242). Members of the university community can also provide input to the CPC via email to vpa@upei.ca.
Workplace Safety Inspections Sessions will take place April 15, 9:00-11:00 am and April 16, 1:30-3:30 pm (sessions will cover the same material), in the Robertson Library, room 235. In this seminar, participants will learn ways to prepare, inspect, report, and follow up on workplace hazards. The workshop uses group and individual activities involving common hazard scenarios and sample forms to guide you along in your next workplace safety inspection. Please register for any of these sessions through Debbie McKie at dmckie@upei.ca. Note that other Occupational Health and Safety training opportunities are available through WCB at this link: .

69´«Ã½faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend research ethics training workshops on Tuesday April 22. The workshops are being hosted by 69´«Ã½Research Services and will be delivered by Laura-Lee Balkwill, Policy Analyst from the Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research, Ottawa. The ethics workshop topics to be presented are: 9:00 am – 10:30 am: Social Sciences and Humanities and Research Ethics 10:45 am – 12:15 pm: Health Sciences and Research Ethics 1:15 pm – 2:45 pm: Research Ethics Board Review: How is it Done? Putting the TCPS2 into Practice 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm: Research involving First Nations, Inuit and Metis People of Canada. There is no charge to attend the workshops and you may attend as many as you like. The workshops will be held on campus, location to be announced.
