Conference Services has been working closely with the Canadian Mathematical Society who are hosting their annual Summer Meeting this weekend June 5-8 at UPEI. Upwards of 250 delegates from across the country (and beyond) will congregate at UPEI, including many who are staying in residence. While they will be utilizing space all over campus, their primary plenary space is in Don and Marion McDougall Hall.
The University offers for sale by public tender the following surplus equipment: 1 x 2004 Pontiac Montana, 6-Cylinder, Automatic w/ 291,447 kms. Studded winter tires are mounted but summer tires are included. Also comes with roof-mounted carry box. 1 x 2008 17-ft Boston Whaler 170 Montauk w/90hp Mercury EFI 4-stroke engine on trailer. Also comes with depth sounder and AM/FM radio. Trailer is a 2009 Karavan-galvanized single axle with a swing-away tongue. Interested bidders can submit bid price for each item separately. Troy Life & Fire Safety will be performing fire alarm inspections throughout campus beginning Thursday, June 11/15. As part of the inspections, there will be testing of alarms, however, there will be an audible notification stating this is a test at the beginning and when the test is completed. The building occupants are not required to evacuate during the testing period. The ringing of alarms is required to test their function and to ensure the speakers work throughout the building. This will be a small portion (up to 2 hours) of the total time they are in the building. From June 26 to 30, the Jeux de l鈥橝cadie (Acadian Games) will be held in Charlottetown, including on the 69传媒campus. The Games are a combination of sport and cultural activities for Acadian and francophone youth from the Atlantic Provinces that promote youth development, the Acadian culture, and the French language. The University will host officials and members of the various missions in residence housing and for meetings, as well as be the venue for a number of sport activities. It is a large-scale event that would not be possible without the support of volunteers. There a number of volunteer roles available. While bilingualism is an asset, English-only speaking volunteers are welcome to register. NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) has begun its third annual round of community engagement visits to provide researchers, students and other stakeholders an opportunity to learn more about some recent program and policy developments. These visits will also serve as a platform for the community to ask questions and seek more information from some of NSERC鈥檚 grants and scholarships staff. Some of the topics that will be discussed include: 鈥 Discovery Research (update on Federal Budget, NSERC strategic plan, program news, etc.); 鈥 Scholarships and Fellowships (update on post-doctoral fellowships and Collaborative Research and Training Experience program); 鈥 Women in Science and Engineering (update on new Chairs for Women in Science and Engineering as well as other initiatives); and 鈥 Policies and guidelines 鈥 (update on a variety of issues ranging from grant funding extensions to Open Access).
