Please join us for the 2017 Faculty Association Recognition and Awards year’s dinner and gala. Everyone is welcome to celebrate the end of the academic year, and to honour FA award recipients and retirees.

Join us at Fox Meadows Golf Club (167 Kinlock Road, Stratford, PEI) on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 6:30 pm for the reception and 7:00 pm for the dinner.

Tickets are $50.00 each (with a subsidized price of $25.00 for FA members and their guests), and can be pre-ordered at the Faculty Association Office, SDU Main Building, Room 315, 566-0438, hjpenny@upei.ca.

At the Chaplaincy Centre, thoughts are with the students during exam time, their success, and yes, of course, the chili luncheo! On Monday and Tuesday, April 10 and 11, between 11:30 am –1:30 pm, a chili lunch will be served at the Chaplaincy Centre, free for the students. About 300 students show up each day for smiles, conversation, and food during this busy week!

On Monday, April 10, Dr. Farimah HakemZadeh will give a teaching demonstration on "Contingencies in Organizational Behaviour and/or Management" at 1:30 pm in MCDH246 which will be followed by her public presentation of research and scholarship on "Evidence-Based Decision Making." The presentation will be held in MCDH 246 at 3:00 pm.

The schedule at the Chaplaincy Centre is different with exams and Holy Week beginning this week:

  • Monday, April 10 - Chili Lunch, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm, (no noon mass) Chrism Mass at Saint Dunstan's Basilica at 7:00 pm

  • Thursday, April 13 - Holy Thursday, (no noon mass) masses in local parishes
  • Friday, April 14 - Good Friday Service 3:00 pm
  • Sunday, April 16 - Easter Sunday Mass (no 6:00 pm mass in the evening) 11:00 am with confirmation of two 69´«Ã½students

Department heads and chairs are reminded that the University's fiscal year-end is April 30, 2017. To ensure that 2016-17 expenditures are recorded in the 2016-17 operating budget, all external requisitions to be processed for purchase orders must be received by the Procurement Services office no later than 12:00 noon on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

PEI Chief Justice David Jenkins will share with Prince Edward Islanders what he's learned as a member of Bermuda's Constituency Boundaries Commission. He will deliver a lecture Monday, April 10, at 7:00 pm., in the 69´«Ã½Main Building Faculty Lounge.

While Prince Edward Island goes through the process of updating its electoral boundaries, over the past several months Justice Jenkins has been on hand as Bermuda underwent a similar process. The Honourable Gerard Mitchell, who is chairing Prince Edward Island's Electoral Boundaries Commission, will be on hand to provide the PEI context of reviewing its 27 electoral districts, including the boundaries and the names.

Admission is free and all are welcome to attend!

If you're a 69´«Ã½Student, Alumni, Staff, or Faculty member who has children or grandchildren we invite you to attend this event. This is a non-denominational, non-religious event, for people of all faiths.

Join the celebration for "Let's Talk Science" experiments, snacks, a ball pit, the movie "Hop", and an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids (children will collectively hunt for all of the eggs and then take turns choosing an egg to keep until we run out of eggs)

69´«Ã½is updating to a newer version of Moodle for the spring and summer session. Because of this, the courses for the Spring/Summer session are being generated on the upgraded version of Moodle. This version of Moodle is available at (courses will be available there).

What's new in new Moodle?

If you're familiar with using Moodle, the updated version will look and feel very similar to the previous version. We have a list of some of the new changes that have been made in the update: Moodle 3.1 : .

What if I have old teaching materials that I need for next semester?

If you have teaching materials from previous versions of your next semester courses, you can import those materials into the new version of Moodle by doing a Backup and Restore. We have a video that shows each step of the process which you can watch here: Moodle Backup and Restore. The E-Learning Office will also be hosting working sessions where we will walk through the process, you can register through . The E-Learning Office is happy to help you backup and restore your materials if you need assistance.

Final grade submissions:

With the launch of myUPEI, Moodle will be the where final grades are submitted. If you keep track of your grades in Moodle or with a spreadsheet like Excel or Google Spreadsheets, this should make final grade submissions easier. We go over the changes in a bit more detail on .

ACENET's annual spring Basics Series training will be taking place in St. John's, Fredericton, and Halifax beginning April 25th. The series will also be available remotely if you're unable to attend in person.
 
If you're new to ACENET/Compute Canada, or would like to hone your advanced computing skills, please sign up for one of these training sessions.
 
For the first time, ACENET will also be offering a Parallel Computing School. This is designed for participants familiar with the Unix command line and who have some level of programming experience. Completion of the ACENET Basics Series, or equivalent experience, is strongly recommended. Seating is limited so please register early.

NOMINATION GUIDELINES:

Award Value: Beginning in 2013, two awards valued at $1,000 each will be granted until the fund is depleted.

Nominators: Individuals or groups of 69´«Ã½faculty, staff, or students may submit nominations.

Eligibility: A nominee can be a UPEIFA member, staff member, or volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to the research enterprise at UPEI.

Deadline:  The Scholarships and Awards Committee will accept nominations until April 14, 2017
