The Department of Companion Animals will interview Dr. Patrick Burns for a tenure-track faculty position in anesthesiology on Wednesday, August 17, and Thursday, August 18, 2022.
Dr. Burns received his BVSc. in 1992 from the University of Queensland, Australia, and became a member of the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care in 1997, and the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Anaesthesia and Critical Care in 2001. He completed a residency in Anesthesia and Critical Care from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005 and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists in 2006. Dr. Burns is currently in a term-contract position in anesthesiology with Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College.
As part of the interview process, Dr. Burns has been asked to present a 50-minute seminar on two separate topics: the first on a topic that would be appropriate to teach third-year DVM students and the second about his research interests or to demonstrate some of his past research experiences.

Printing in Excel can be fraught, and not every department has a Trevor, so here are some tips.
Print selection/range:
To print only a specific range of cells, highlight it on the sheet, and then choose Print Selection. To select non-adjacent cells or ranges, hold the Ctrl key while selecting.
Print entire sheet(s):
To print the entire sheet that you currently have open, choose Print Active Sheets
To print multiple sheets, click on the sheet tabs while holding the Ctrl key, and then choose Print Active Sheets.
Print entire workbook:
To print all sheets in the current workbook, select Print Entire Workbook.
Print Excel Table:
To print out an Excel table, click any cell within your table, and choose Print Selected Table. This option only appears when the table or part of it is selected.

Title: "Fluorescence-Based Investigations of 1,8- and 2,6-ANS with Pillar[n]arene, Calix[n]arene, and Cyclodextrin Hosts in Nonaqueous Solvents"
Abstract: The properties and host-guest inclusion complexes of pillar[n]arene, calix[n]arene, and cyclodextrin hosts were investigated in nonaqueous solvents via fluorescence spectroscopy in a comparative binding study. Comparing the inclusion abilities of these families of macrocyclic hosts is particularly interesting as pillar[n]arenes and calix[n]arenes are less frequently used but have chemical similarities, and cyclodextrins are the most popular family of hosts. Two structural isomers, 1,8- and 2,6-ANS, were used as polarity-sensitive fluorescent guests to investigate the effect of guest shape and size on the binding by hosts. Fluorescence titrations were performed in nonaqueous solvents to monitor the formation of inclusion complexes and to determine the binding constants, K, for the various systems. The results of this comparative binding study show that the binding of these ANS guests does not depend on any one factor alone but rather a combination of inter-related factors, including solvent polarity, specific solvent-solute interactions, host cavity shape and size, host flexibility, and available driving forces for inclusion in nonaqueous solvents. This work has contributed to the understanding of host-guest inclusion in nonaqueous solvents and relative host properties.
