69传媒Music Department to Present Ensemble Recitals

The 69传媒Department of Music will present several recitals throughout the months of November and December, with performances featuring 69传媒music students, alumni, and community members.

On November 24, the 69传媒Jazz Ensemble will perform an eclectic program featuring jazz standards and modern compositions alike. Under the direction of David Shephard, the concert will feature works by jazz greats Pat Metheny, Wayne Shorter, Benny Goodman, and Quincy Jones. 

The members of the 69传媒Wind Symphony are excited to return to performing live for the first time in a year, with a program of works by British composers. Featured works for this December 1st recital include Philip Sparke's playful and expressive 鈥淗anover Festival,鈥 Ralph Vaughan William's iconic 鈥淔olk Song Suite鈥 (including the original 4th movement, 鈥淪ea Songs鈥), a set of three musical 鈥淧ortraits of the North鈥 by British Canadian composer Robert Buckley, and the first movement of Edward Gregson's 鈥淭uba Concerto,鈥 featuring music student Olive MacPhail as soloist.

Under the direction of Natalie Williams Calhoun, the 69传媒String Orchestra will perform a recital on December 2. The program will feature composers Bloch, Vivaldi, Bartok, among others. Laura Ono, piano, will be featured as a soloist for this recital.

On Friday, December 9, the 69传媒Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Womens鈥 Vocal Ensemble, and Music Alumni, under the musical direction of Sung Ha Shin-Bouey and assisted by pianist Leo Marchildon, will present an eclectic mixture of choral music and Christmas repertoire. Included in the program are Handel鈥檚 鈥淭he King Shall Rejoice,鈥 鈥淐andlelight Carol鈥 by John Rutter, and Gjeilo鈥檚 鈥淥 Magnum Mysterium鈥 for mixed chorus and cello solo, featuring Natalie Williams Calhoun, among many other choral gems.

Tickets to all the aforementioned recitals are $20 for adults and $10 for students, and will be available for purchase with cash at the door of the event. All recitals will take place at 7:30 pm at Dr. Steel Recital Hall at UPEI.
