The Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCCA) at the 69传媒 (UPEI) is seeking one Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on several research projects related to climate smart agriculture. The annual salary for this position is $45,000 including benefits. The CCCCA is a 45,000 square-foot research facility located in the community of St. Peter鈥檚 Bay, PEI. The facility and the lands surrounding it serve as a living laboratory that allows for unlimited access to nearby wetlands, forests, and coastal habitats. The CCCCA is a world leading research and teaching center in understanding and adapting to climate change impacts.

The responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Leading on several research projects related to climate smart agriculture, e.g., carbon flux estimation for agriculture fields, climate change impacts on crop yields, exploration of climate adaptation pathways using crop simulation models
  • publishing research results on a timely manner in high-impact journals
  • writing project reports and research proposals
  • organizing meetings/webinars/conferences; and
  • supervising graduate and undergraduate students

The successful candidate for this position should meet the following criteria:

  • hold a PhD degree in a climate-related or agriculture-related field
  • have published peer-reviewed papers in the top-tier journals in the field of climate and/or agriculture
  • have expertise in utilizing various precision agriculture technologies (e.g., yield monitors, variable rate applicators, and farm management software) for data-driven decision making in crop production
  • have demonstrated experience in smart precision technologies and agricultural practices
  • is proficient in piloting and data acquisition using UAVs for agricultural applications (e.g., crop health monitoring, soil analysis, and yield prediction)
  • is skilled in utilizing remote sensing data, such as satellite imagery and aerial photographs, to analyze vegetation indices, and assess environmental factors influencing crop growth
  • have experience with various software tools, such as MATLAB, R, ArcGIS, QGIS, Pix4D, Origin, Agisoft Metashape, Photoshop, etc.
  • has in-depth knowledge of digital agriculture technologies for optimizing farm management, including data analytics, automation tools, and artificial intelligence applications
  • has experience in designing and conducting field experiments in agricultural settings, ensuring data quality and collection protocols
  • be self-motivated and have strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated experience with managing multiple tasks
  • be willing to collaborate and work with an interdisciplinary research team; and
  • have previous research experience about PEI鈥檚 climate change issues (this is not required but will be a great asset for consideration)
