The 69传媒 (UPEI) is seeking an Access and Privacy Officer who works under the direction of the Chief Access and Privacy Officer to administer requests for access to information, train others in privacy best practices, and ensure personal information is appropriately protected across University operations.  The purpose of the position is to enable the University to meet its commitments in the realms of privacy and access.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant, reporting to the Chief Access to Information and Privacy Officer will provide the following:

  • Coordinate, manage and implement UPEI鈥檚 response to access to information requests and internal access related systems and processes.
  • Receive and evaluate access to information requests, providing advice, direction and recommendations on the application of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPP) to senior leaders and departmental heads. 
  • Manage applicant communications, liaise with relevant University departments, anticipate and resolve issues related to access, respond to access requests within statutory timeframes and manage communications with the Information and Privacy Commissioner鈥檚 Office. 
  • Analyse and apply FOIPP exemptions to responsive records and effectively communicate recommendations to senior leaders and Public Body Head. 
  • Advise on best practices and internal policies in relation to the management of personal information to support activities and programs across campus.
  • Initiate, deliver and promote training and educational activities to foster campus wide access awareness and good privacy practices. 
  • Review and provide advice to departments on new or existing initiatives and programs that collect, store, use, disclose or destroy personal information.
  • Develop effective working relationships within the University to support the implementation, promotion and delivery of access and privacy protocols.
  • Other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor鈥檚 degree in a related field such as information management, public administration, social sciences, law, or post-secondary education with experience in a related field 
  • A recognized professional privacy certificate (i.e. CIPP/C, CIPM) would be considered an asset
  • Experience applying provincial or federal access to information legislation a definite asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of privacy best practices
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and rules regarding privacy in Canada
  • Demonstrated judgement, analysis and decision-making skills in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential matters
  • The position requires considerable organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities and demonstrated superior attention to detail
  • The successful applicant honors commitments by tracking projects and meeting timelines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) applications 
  • Knowledge of or experience in health information or IT security are not required but would be an asset
