The next presentation in the Island Studies Lecture Series will examine the importance and popularity of astronomy on the Big Island of Hawai鈥檌.

In addition to the long-standing thesis option, students will be able to take one of two course and work-study-based specializations in Island Tourism or Sustainable Island Communities. Both programs begin in September of 2019.

| Atlantic Veterinary College

Dr. Ian Dohoo, professor emeritus of epidemiology, has been appointed to the Order of Canada. He received the honour for his contributions to veterinary and human epidemiology in developed and developing countries.

The decision to close 69传媒due to weather is not made lightly. However, in weather situations where the potential risk to UPEI鈥檚 students and employees as well as property, are high, the University may close, meaning classes and exams are cancelled and services are reduced. In 2017, a new University Closure Policy was approved by the 69传媒Board of Governors and endorsed by the University Senate. The policy and associated University Closure Procedures help guide senior management in making decisions about storm closures and how to communicate them.

Despite a New Year's Day storm, hundreds of 69传媒faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends attended the University's annual New Year's Levee. UPEI鈥檚 version of the social event鈥攈eld at the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering building鈥攑roved yet again to be a popular stop for levee-goers, and, with the inclement weather, led to participants staying a bit longer to mingle, given that a number of levees were cancelled.
