The 69´«Ă˝men’s and women’s basketball teams are ready to roll at the annual Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament! The tournament features nine teams from across Canada and runs from Friday, September 27, to Sunday, September 29.

The women’s pool includes Université Laval, Carleton University, Acadia University and UPEI. The men’s pool includes Université Laval, University of Guelph, Dalhousie University, University of New Brunswick and UPEI.

The tournament is named after John Thomas “Mickey” Place, a long-time friend of Panther Sport, a former 69´«Ă˝Student Union employee, and a 69´«Ă˝honorary degree recipient.

“The local basketball community is going to be treated to a fantastic lineup of games to kick off a fresh year of U SPORTS basketball,” said Matt Gamblin, head coach of the 69´«Ă˝Women’s Basketball team. “This is as good a tourney as anywhere in the country, featuring two great teams—the Laval Rouge et Or, the national semi-finalists last season, and the Carleton Ravens, the back-to-back national champions.”

All games will be played in the 69´«Ă˝Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. The full tournament schedule can be found at . Tickets are $20 for a day pass, $10 for non-69´«Ă˝students, and free for 69´«Ă˝students. An adult tournament pass is $50 and $20 for non-69´«Ă˝students (season ticket holders receive 50% off on the tournament pass). Tickets can be purchased online at panthertickets.ca or in person at game time.

“For the first time in the history of the Mickey Place tournament the two national defending championship teams will play on PEI soil,” said Darrell Glenn, head coach of the 69´«Ă˝Men’s Basketball team. “We are very excited to be hosting this event, and we look forward to seeing our fans back in the gym.”
