PEI Symphony Orchestra performance to feature UPEI鈥檚 Magdalena von Eccher

The PEI Symphony Orchestra (PEISO) is hosting a fundraising concert featuring two new Charlottetown residents, including UPEI鈥檚 recently appointed assistant professor of piano Magdalena von Eccher. The event takes place in the sanctuary of Charlottetown鈥檚 Zion Presbyterian Church 135 Prince Street, on Saturday, March 14, at 7:30 pm. The concert features von Eccher and Glen Montgomery, both recognized as amongst Canada鈥檚 outstanding musicians. The concert will present an array of selections including solo, duet, and trio repertoire in a range of styles.

von Eccher has been on faculty at the University of Lethbridge and McGill University and now the 69传媒. She is a soloist and chamber musician, performing regularly throughout North America and Europe. Recent engagements include performances at the Festival of the Sound, McGill University鈥檚 Musical Chairs Festival, the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and concerto appearances with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra and the Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra.

Montgomery leads a dynamic musical life throughout Canada, performing, teaching, and composing. He has performed around the world in such renowned venues as Leningrad鈥檚 Philharmonic Hall, New York鈥檚 Carnegie Hall, and locales such as Iceland, Japan, and Australia. Montgomery has collaborated with numerous international artists in frequent appearances at the Festival of the Sound, Montreal Chamber Music Festival, and the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival. Over the course of his career, he has been a devoted teacher, with students having achieved national and international acclaim. He has been on the faculties of the Banff Centre, Mount Royal University, University of Ottawa, Conservatoire de Montr茅al, and the University of Lethbridge.

The programme will feature works by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Gershwin, Debussy, Brahms, Chick Corea, Schubert, and more, with appearances by soprano Shannon Scales (Sirens) and William Costin on French horn.
