In a message sent earlier this week, President Abd-El-Aziz encouraged the campus community to participate in activities taking place across the province to celebrate Black History Month.
Dear Members of the Campus Community,
The struggle for a more equal and inclusive society continues as we mark Black History Month this February. Black History Month in Canada was created to provide an opportunity to share and learn about peoples of African ancestry, but there remains work to be done to fully integrate black culture, history, and achievements into the Canadian fabric.
69传媒looks forward to playing its part by affirming our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity through higher education.
This year, the national theme for Black History Month is 鈥淐anadians of African Descent: Going forward, guided by the past,鈥� while the Black Cultural Society of PEI has selected 鈥淐reating a New Dynamic!鈥� Both themes were inspired by the United Nations鈥� , and challenges all of us to reflect on current issues faced by Black communities, and to think critically about how we can stop discrimination.
I encourage faculty, staff, and students to celebrate Black History Month and participate in the many festivities and events across the province that honour the legacy of Black community members, past and present. In particular, I draw your attention to a panel discussion on campus, co-hosted by the Black Cultural Society of PEI and the 69传媒International Student Office at the Fox & Crow on Thursday, February 6 at 5:00 pm called, 鈥�Creating A New Dynamic on Campus.鈥�
