Every spring, the 69传媒 holds Convocation ceremonies to celebrate and award degrees and diplomas to its graduating students. 69传媒strives to make Convocation a special time for graduates as well as their families and friends.

In a message issued on October 25, 2019 to students, faculty, and staff, Dr. Kathy Gottschall-Pass, interim Vice-President Academic and Research, said, 鈥淲ith the growth of programs and the student population, it has become increasingly apparent that having only two Convocation ceremonies, and on the same day鈥擲aturday, is unsustainable. Last year, in order to create the best possible experience for graduates and their guests, the 69传媒Senate approved a third ceremony on a trial basis, with a commitment to exploring other solutions beginning in 2020.鈥

At its September meeting, the 69传媒Senate unanimously supported changes for the Convocation ceremonies in 2020, and also for the 2020鈥21 and 2021鈥22 academic years.

For Convocation 2020, the University will hold four ceremonies, two each on Thursday and Friday:

May 2020

Thursday, May 7

  1. Morning (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine/Faculty of Nursing)
  2. Afternoon (Faculty of Business/Faculty of Engineering)

Friday, May 8

  1. Morning (Faculty of Arts/Faculty of Education)
  2. Afternoon (Faculty of Science)

For Convocation 2021 and Convocation 2022, the University will hold four ceremonies, one each on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning (it is expected that this will be the format that continues for following years):

May 2021

Tuesday, May 11 鈥 Morning (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine/Faculty of Nursing)
Wednesday, May 12 鈥 Morning (Faculty of Business/Faculty of Engineering)
Thursday, May 13 鈥 Morning (Faculty of Arts/Faculty of Education)
Friday, May 14 鈥 Morning (Faculty of Science)

May 2022

Tuesday, May 10 鈥 Morning (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine/Faculty of Nursing)
Wednesday, May 11 鈥 Morning (Faculty of Business/Faculty of Engineering)
Thursday, May 12 鈥 Morning (Faculty of Arts/Faculty of Education)
Friday, May 13 鈥 Morning (Faculty of Science)

Dr. Kathy Gottschall-Pass added, 鈥淲e are confident that these changes will allow the 69传媒tradition鈥攐f holding meaningful Convocation ceremonies that create lasting memories for our graduating students鈥攖o continue well into the future.鈥

More details about Convocation 2020 will be added to upei.ca/convocation as they become available.
