Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament action begins October 17

The Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament presented by Rodd Hotels & Resorts begins on Friday, October 17 with eight basketball teams from across Canada competing in the annual three-day event.

The 69传媒Men's Basketball team will tip off against Saint Mary's University, Holland College, and Crandall University, while the 69传媒Women's Basketball team will take on the University of Ottawa, Bishop's University, and Cape Breton University.

'We are very pleased to be hosting our annual Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament this weekend. All of our players are very excited for the opportunity to play in front of the Panther faithful, many for the first time,' said 69传媒Men's Basketball Head Coach Tim Kendrick. 'The competition is stiff, and we are looking forward to seeing some great basketball action over the three days!'

69传媒Women's Basketball Head Coach Mark English will make his AUS debut at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre during the tournament and he is eager to get the season started. 'It's been an absolute pleasure here at 69传媒during my first few weeks. We are not only excited for the tournament, but also proud to be hosting it, as it's an opportunity to give our fans an early look at the team. We have some strong teams coming to town and it's shaping up to be an intense weekend of basketball.'

The tournament is named after John Thomas 'Mickey' Place, a long-time friend of Panther Sport, a former 69传媒student union employee, and a 69传媒honorary degree recipient.
