Join us Friday, January 24 at 2:30 pm in the 2nd floor lounge of the Kelley Building to celebrate the first recipients of the Katherine Schultz Research Recognition Awards. Dr. Schultz, who served as UPEI's first Vice-President Research, established these awards to honour 69传媒faculty, staff, and volunteers who play a critical role in supporting research endeavours. The research success of an institution rests fundamentally on the excellence, dedication, and insights of its researchers and their teams of collaborators, trainees, students, and technicians. However, their success also rests on the work of those who might be labelled the 鈥渦nsung heroes鈥 of the research enterprise 鈥 that is, those whose work behind the scenes make it all possible. Without the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of these individuals, our researchers and their research endeavours would be seriously constrained. Please join us for the awards; a small reception will follow. For more information, contact Dave Atkinson at 620-5117, datkinson@upei.ca.
I am pleased to announce that our faculty and staff Annual Fund Campaign is underway. Thank you so much to those of you who have given already, and to those of you who give every month or every pay period. Your support means a lot. I am proud of our department鈥檚 100% participation in charitable giving to UPEI. Collectively, we support many areas on campus that mean something to us, including university priorities, student awards, and AVC, to name a few. We would like to challenge all faculty and staff to join us, and our many other colleagues, in supporting the Annual Fund Campaign, too. To make it as simple as possible, you can even do so through your Campus Login. If this option is not available, please send along your completed form that we provided. Every gift counts. Every faculty and staff member is important. Please give today. Thank you, Myrtle Jenkins-Smith Interim Director, Development and Alumni Engagement

69传媒will be hosting a blood donor clinic on January 30 from 11:00 am-3:00 pm at the Chi-Wan Young Sport Centre. This is an important clinic because of the lost donations this time of year due to illness. There is also an increase in the demand for blood as 8000 new PEI and NS donors are needed as part of the 160,000 new donors needed nationally. Appointments are recommended and may be made by calling 1-888-2-DONATE, (1 888 236 6283). Walk-ins are welcome. Allen Veale - 69传媒mobile clinic facilitator - 566-0988

In an effort to improve services to employees and cut down on printing and mailing costs, 69传媒HR will be launching online T4 slips for the 2013 tax year. Online tax slips will be available, through Campus Login, to current and former employees who received taxable earnings or benefits in 2013. Online T4s are official tax slips accepted by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). However, CRA requires employees to give their consent in order to access their tax slips electronically. Your consent will be valid for all subsequent tax years. New employees can grant consent for online T4s after they have received their first pay cheque. Employees who do not provide consent will have their 2013 T4s mailed to the address on file no later than February 28, 2014. Electronic T4s will be available sooner than the printed versions due to a lesser processing time. The consent form can be accessed through Campus Login (). The consent form must be completed by January 31, 2014. For employees who file their taxes electronically, printing the slip is optional. You will be able to read the values for each of the tax slip boxes online as you are completing your income tax return. You will always have access to slips under Campus Login should you need them now or in the future. We hope to offer similar online service for T4A slips in the future, however, for the 2013 tax year all T4As will be printed and mailed no later than February 28, 2014. If you have any questions, please contact the Human Resources Department at 566-0514.
