The filed of biosafety has progressed dramatically since its inception and we would like to acknowledge the support, hard work, and dedication of those who have contributed over the years!
 
Festivities will be held on Friday, December 18 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Main Building, Faculty Lounge. Hot cider and holiday treats will be served as past and present committee members and permit holders gather for some holiday cheer.
 
We look forward to seeing you!

The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions -- new, renewal, or amendment -- is Friday, January 8 for the January meeting. 

Ensure you always…

·        Download the current forms from 

·        Use the most current Adobe Reader to complete forms and only current forms will be accepted.

Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date.

·        Submit one copy of original protocol with signature to AVC - North Annex, Biomedical Sciences Dept., Rm 2302

·        Submit an electronic copy to animalcare@upei.ca

Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month.

The Committee requires at least one month for processing applications.

Thank you, Mark Leggott!  For the past nine years, the L.M. Montgomery Institute Management Committee, which he chaired, has benefited from Mark Leggott's considerable digital and technical expertise and creativity. Most recently, he has refurbished the LMMI website, which is soon to be launched. The new Chair of the LMMI is Dr. Philip Smith, Professor of Psychology, who has a long history of supporting the LMMI's outreach, research, and biennial international conferences.

The Department of Religious Studies invites students, faculty and staff to the following presentation for a tenure-track position in Religious Studies. Dr. Shobhana Xavier, Franklin and Marshall University, Lancaster, PA, will be presenting: "The Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship and the Dynamics of Sufism in North America."
Presentation will be on Tuesday, December 15 at 2:30 pm in SDU Main Bldg, room 320.

The Challenge is an opportunity for you and a group of co-workers to participate in a fun, eight week physical activity. It's simple, just record the number of minutes you are active daily. Teams of 6 record their activity from January 18 - March 13, 2016. The program is free and for 69´«Ã½students and employees only. Registration form:

There are approximately 30 international students who have indicated they would like to spend Christmas with a local family if possible. If you or someone you know is able to invite two students over to their home for a meal, please let Erica Stanley know. Also, if you know of any students, international or Canadian, who would like to be involved in activities during the break, please encourage them to make contact with Erica Stanley.  Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

Time to get creative. Join your co-workers in decorating your office for the Christmas office and tree decorating contest. Judging will be held from 1:30 - 2:30 pm on Thursday, December 17. Please register your office with Angela Marchbank at amarchbank@upei.ca before Wednesday, December 16.

Edie Rogers from Charlottetown Physiology will provide Soft Tissue Injury Prevention Info Sessions Topics will include general ergonomics, body issues, safe lifting practices, followed by everyone doing some sample exercises.

Notice from Facilities Management

Due to feedback received, we have revised the date for the power shutdown.

Maritime Electric requires a power shutdown of the campus.  This shutdown is necessary to perform required work to the substation. The shutdown will take place on Sunday, December 20th. The work will start at 4 am and take between 3-4 hours to complete. This will result in the normal power being shut down for the entire campus. Emergency power will not be affected.

Canadian hockey icon Ron MacLean will be in Charlottetown Monday, December 14th, headlining a fundraising event for the 69´«Ã½Men’s Hockey program.

Organized by the Friends of 69´«Ã½Hockey, MacLean will be sharing stories and answering questions during the fundraiser at the PEI Brewing Company. Doors open at 6:30 pm with MacLean mixing and mingling, then taking the podium at 7 pm.

Tickets are $60 per person and are available by contacting Forbie MacPherson at mhockey@upei.ca, Mike O'Brien at mike.obrien@live.ca or Lennie Kelly at . This event is for those 19 years of age or older.

The call for nominations for appointment to the rank of Professor Emeritus is now open. Please note that only 69´«Ã½faculty are permitted to nominate faculty to professor emeritus. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, January 15, 2016. Nominations should be forwarded to Dr. Shannon Murray, Chair of the Professor Emeritus Evaluation Committee, Department of English, UPEI, 550 University Ave., Charlottetown, PE C1A 4P3.

The Professor Emeritus Evaluation Committee will consider all nominees and forward its recommendations to Senate. Senate is the final approval body and will notify nominees of its decision. Inquiries may be directed to Dr. Murray at smurray@upei.ca.

Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep, brings an incredible calmness, quietness and clarity to the body. Yoga Nidra is one of the deepest of all meditations, leading awareness through many levels of mental process to a state of supreme stillness and insight. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and are welcome to bring a pillow, blanket and any additional props.

The event is a wonderful opportunity for graduate students, staff and faculty to meet and get acquainted. The night will feature various activities such as: an ugly holiday sweater contest, silent action, photobooth, staff and faculty awards and trivia.
