The Institute of Island Studies welcomes Dr. Stan Brunn, Professor Emeritus from the University of Kentucky, to speak on 鈥淭he Changing World Language Map: A Megaproject in Progress鈥 in UPEI鈥檚 SDU Main Building Faculty Lounge on Tuesday, June 27, at 10:30 am.

Dr. Brunn will be speaking about his latest book project on the world鈥檚 languages called The Changing World Language Map. One of the most well-respected cultural geographers in North America, Dr. Brunn is widely published, including serving as editor of the five-volume, 3200+ page The Changing World Religion Map.

As part of his presentation, he invites interested parties to contribute to the project and is willing to take questions on the current state of US politics.

Admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend!

Emergency First Aid Training is being held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. There are still a few spaces available for 69传媒faculty and staff and the cost will be covered by the 69传媒Health & Safety budget. Costs associated with training students would be billed back to their department.

June 21 is National Aboriginal Day, a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and M茅tis peoples. 69传媒will fly the Grand Council Flag of Mi'kmaq Nation to recognize that the University is located on the unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people.

In Charlottetown, the Native Council of PEI is from 11:30 am - 3:00 pm with an opening ceremony at 11:30 am at Confederation Landing Park and free hotdogs and cake for lunch. At 1:00 pm, participants will enjoy friendly competition in the Indian Summer Games. Traditional crafters will be onsite throughout the event, showcasing their talents in crafting demonstrations. The Mi'kmaq Confederacy of PEI is also at Lennox Island First Nation from 12 noon - 3 pm to help "Celebrate the Culture" with drummers, dancers, and crafters and a free BBQ and children's activities. All activities are free and open to the public. 

 

The next 69传媒on-site training session in animal use and care will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the AVC, The McCain Foundation Learning Commons, Rm 280 N. This will be a three hour training session with handouts, based on CCAC Recommended Syllabus (exam included). The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) requires that all personnel involved with the use of animals in research, teaching, testing and service take this course.  (A refresher course is required every 5 years).

The 69传媒department of Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS) is pleased to announce the launch of a new website designed with the user in mind!

The focus of the new and improved website is to create a more interactive and user-friendly environment with simplified content and easier access to the services offered by the department. The site features a new design as well as an info site in the my69传媒Portal.

Highlights include:

  • FAQ and self service section
  • A simplified help desk request form
  • An ITSS services catalog
  • New forms for IT system access and computer purchase requests (located in our my69传媒info site)
  • Training materials for using Gmail Apps and Microsoft Office

Don MacEwen, a professor in the School of Sustainable Design Engineering (SSDE), will officially retire on June 30 after an amazing 40 years of service to UPEI. The engineering faculty and staff would like to invite the university community to a retirement get-together for Don on Thursday, June 29 between 2:00 and 4:00 pm in the SDU Engineering Lecture Hall (SSDE 128B). Cake and light refreshments will be served.

We hope you can join us to wish our friend and colleague Don all the best in his retirement!

The 69传媒Office of Recuitment and International Relations is looking for homestay families for visiting international students from Japan, Korea, and China for periods of two to six weeks this summer. Homestay is an important part of students' experiences here and it can be a great international experience for your family. On Wednesday, June 21 the 69传媒campus community is invited to attend the 8th Annual Graduate Research Recognition Day. Presentations will be held in Lecture Theatre A at AVC from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, each presentation is 20 minutes long. After the presentations there will be a BBQ in the AVC Commons.

The Robertson Library invites the campus community to public presentations and mock classes by candidates for the permanent-track position of Health Sciences and Scholarly Communications Librarian. Each candidate will present on the following topic:

Looking to 2020 and beyond, what are the opportunities and challenges for the 69传媒Library, as a smaller academic library, in providing scholarly communications services, and resources/services for the information needs of students and faculty in its veterinary medicine, nursing, and applied health science programs?

Each presentation will be followed by a mock class on the Pubmed database. All presentations and classes will be held in Robertson Library Room 265 (Library Instruction Centre 鈥 LINC), and the schedule is as follows:

On Monday, June 19, Ms. Kimberly Mears will present at 10:00 am, followed by a mock class at approximately 11:00 am. On Wednesday, June 21, Ms. Caitlin Bakker will present at 10:30 am, followed by a mock class at approximately 11:30 am.

Dr. Jennifer Fowler will be on-campus next week interviewing for one of the open, tenure-track faculty positions in radiology & diagnostic imaging in the Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Dr. Fowler (AVC class of 2012) is currently in the fourth, and final, year of her Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging residency program at the Oregon State University.

As part of the interview process, Dr. Fowler will be presenting two seminars.  A copy of her CV & letter of application are available upon request, please email fisher@upei.ca.

A seminar entitled Imaging of the Small Animal Spine will be given on Monday, June 19 at12:30 pm in Lecture Theatre 鈥楥鈥, AVC. And a seminar entitled Pulmonary Imaging of Dairy Calves with Naturally Occurring Respiratory Disease will be given on Tuesday, June 20 at 8:30 am in Lecture Theatre 鈥楥鈥, AVC.

Please note: The REB does not meet during July or August so protocols involving 鈥榤ore than minimal risk鈥 that are submitted in July and August will be held until September for review at the September 2017 meeting.

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve 鈥榤ore than minimal risk鈥, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.

Ensure you download the , use the most current Adobe Reader to complete forms (only current forms will be accepted).

Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date.

  • Item #1: 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 truck, motor and transmission are in good condition, needs new battery, 221,000 kms (estimated) bids to start at $300.00.
  • Item #2: 1970鈥檚 custom made canoe trailer (no longer certified for road use).
