CAAL-CBPA Strategic Plan: Goal 6.3 Administer an OER Development Grants Program for educators in the region. 

The  is delighted to announce the recipients of this year鈥檚 . These grants are intended to support educators in the Atlantic Region in the adaptation, adoption, creation, and curation of open educational resources (OER), and to increase access to course materials for students. With funding from the Council of Atlantic Ministers for Education and Training (CAMET), the AtlanticOER Development Grant Program expanded this year. A new tiered system of funding was introduced to better support textbook creation (up to $7,000), adaptation (up to $3,500), and ancillary material creation projects (up to $1,000). 

The grants aim to support educators from provincially funded post secondary institutions in achieving the following objectives:

• Support the creation or adaptation of open textbooks and ancillary materials, such as PowerPoint slides, quiz banks, images, and other digital study or interactive aids;
• Create a variety of OERs developed for use by educators and students in credit-bearing courses;
• Establish supportive events for the development of content for OERs, such as sprints (a collaborative in-person or virtual event to create or adapt an open textbook or ancillary resources); or
• Distribute funds to maximize direct benefit to a wide range of student learners and inquiry across a diversity of disciplines.

Members of the 69传媒campus community and general public are invited to the Harrington Research Farm Open House on Saturday, July 27 from 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. The first open house in five years! 

Come and discover the science behind your food! Several interactive activities will be featured throughout the day to present the scientific research on potatoes, cereal grain, corn, hops, and much more! There will be a number of children's activities as well as guided wagon tours of our research farm.  

Did you know that the Harrington Research Farm has more than 600 acres of farmland and a large greenhouse dedicated to year-round agriculture research on sustainable cropping systems?  

The farm has hundreds of small plots dedicated to research on potato and cereal varieties best suited for the Maritimes. Our research aims to manage weeds, insects and diseases, as well as maintain soil health and water quality, with the objective to support agricultural producers across Canada.

We have a variety of outdoor games to sign out for use on campus with your colleagues. Games include bocce, croquet, ladderball, washers, and yard-zee. You are encouraged to sign out items for more than one day.

Come out and try pickleball and/or spikeball with fellow 69传媒staff and faculty every Thursday at noon for the summer (weather permitting) near the new residence.

The 69传媒Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies will host a full moon ceremony on Monday, July 22, in the tipi close to Kelley Memorial Building. The sacred fire will be lit at 6:30 pm, and the ceremony, led by Elder Thirely Levi, will begin at 7:00 pm.

Since time immemorial, Indigenous Peoples have followed the 13 moons or moon cycles to ground themselves in their teachings and ensure balance. Life on Earth is connected to and regulated by Grandmother Moon, through the tides and waters, which stabilizes our Earth's position and determines the cycle of women and the birth of new life. Grandmother Moon helps us with healing and is strongly connected to human life. Every phase of Grandmother Moon has a different focus, and this month, we focus on the strength and beauty of slowing down as Mother Earth begins to awaken from her rest. 

Participants are asked to bring a bottle of water for blessing and to refrain from recording the ceremony either by video or photography. If you would like to wear a skirt but do not have one, you may borrow one during the ceremony. All are welcome!

The Department of Physics is once again hosting public viewings of the sun using our solar telescopes. We invite you to join us on Friday, July 19, from 12:30-2:00 pm on the grassy area between Memorial Hall and Robertson Library. There you can view the sun's chromosphere through our ground-based telescope before climbing to the observatory and viewing the sun's photosphere through a different telescope. And if you don't know what a chromosphere or a photosphere is, we'll teach you!

With the anticipation of rain on Thursday, July 18, Dana Hospitality's BBQ is postponed until Friday, July 19. The BBQ starts at 11:30 am outside AVC's main doors.

A portion of Parking Lot G will be closed beginning July 17, 2024, at 8:00 am to provide space to the contractor that is replacing the Atlantic Veterinary College's north-end green roof. This closure is expected to be in effect until August 30, 2024. If Lot G is full during this period, please use the MacLauchlan Arena Parking Lot and Lot B. The perimeter road will remain open during construction.
