The Healthy Campus Committee provides two FREE Meditation and Yoga classes per week for 69´«Ã½faculty and staff. The 45-minute class offers meditation and gentle yoga stretches. The meditation segment of the class creates more calm, inner peace, and balance that benefits your emotional well-being and overall health. Yoga instructor Pam Harris Stewart leads the 12:10--12:55 pm class on Thursdays, and yoga instructor Colleen Gallant leads the 4:15--5:00 pm class on Tuesdays.

When practicing good consent, we open ourselves up to rejection. Even thinking about asking for consent can bring up worry, dread, and avoidance regarding rejection. As educators and violence prevention workers, how do we equip individuals so that they make considerate, courageous choices in the face of rejection (and other awful feelings)?

The Action Now Youth Advocacy Network is hosting a one-hour workshop on May 26 at 1:00 pm AT with Karen B.K. Chan, an award-winning sex and emotional literacy educator in Toronto, Canada, with 25+ years of experience. Karen (aka BK) is dedicated to having difficult conversations that are real, transformative, and kind.

"Teilhard de Chardin: A Book of Hours," co-edited by Dr. Libby Osgood, CND, assistant professor in the 69´«Ã½Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, and Dr. Kathleen Deignan, CND, Iona College, New York, will be launched on Wednesday, May 17, at 7:00 pm at the Charlottetown Library Rotary Room. 

The book is an edited volume of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin’s most inspirational work set by the editors in the format of liturgical hours. Osgood and Deignan, both sisters in the Congregation of Notre Dame, turned Teilhard de Chardin’s over 6,000 pages of writings into eight evolutive days of prayers for dawn, day, dusk, and dark.  

Born in Sarcenat, France, in 1881, was a Jesuit priest and an accomplished paleoanthropologist who researched human beginnings and wrote imaginative, mystical writings on the evolutionary nature of the world and the cosmos. His writings were rejected by ecclesiastical authorities and the Jesuit leadership who placed him under interdiction and refused to allow him to publish his writings or to teach in France. Despite the interdiction, he continued to write. He bequeathed his writing to his secretary, Jeanne Mortier, who ensured that they were published after his death in New York City in 1955. 

The launch will be a celebration of Teilhard’s life and work, and Osgood will read from the book during the launch. The book is available at the Bookmark in Charlottetown.

This basic one-day course offers lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. 

The cost of registration will be covered by HSE for all 69´«Ã½faculty and staff, including students who require training for on-campus employment. Students who do not require training for on-campus employment are welcome to attend; however, the cost of registration will not be covered. Please note that lunch will not be provided.

From June 15 to 16, Memorial University will host the 2023 CBIE Atlantic Regional Meeting. This event will focus on the future of international education through a series of breakout sessions, roundtables, and networking activities.

The CBIE Atlantic Regional Meeting is an annual meeting of international education practitioners and is an opportunity to share knowledge, share resources, and keep abreast of immigration and other changes in the sector. This event also serves as an annual networking event for those involved in international education in Atlantic Canada and is a precursor to the national conference each November.

As part of the 69´«Ã½Hearing Conservation Program, audiometric testing will take place on June 9 and 16, 2023 in Kelley Memorial Building, Room 313. These tests take approximately ten minutes to complete. 

It is important, especially in high-volume workplaces, to have your hearing tested annually. All are welcome to attend.

Workplace Safety for Supervisors
Supervisors play a critical role in ensuring health and safety in the workplace. Because they direct the work of others, supervisors are well-positioned to impact safety culture at work. This session will introduce participants to the concept of due diligence and inform them of the legal responsibilities supervisors have for worker safety.

Young Worker Safety: Changing the Culture
Participants will learn what is now known about the significant influence supervisors can have on young worker safety, and how employers and supervisors might capitalize on this. Participants will hear what young PEI workers say about their hesitation to raise their workplace safety concerns, and what they can do to encourage young workers to speak up.
