Student Rec Time

69´«Ã½Student Rec Time is an opportunity for 69´«Ã½students to participate in recreational sports and activities on campus at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre gymnasiums and/or the 69´«Ã½Turf Field. There is no fee charged for the planned Student Rec Time.

Committee

Representatives on the Committee include Angela Marchbank and Jonathan Lane from 69´«Ã½Athletics and Recreation, Cezar Campeanu from UPEI’s Student Union, Jonathan Hewitt from 69´«Ã½Campus Life, and Austin Clement from Ancillary Services and 69´«Ã½Residence.  

The Committee meets twice a month to determine the activity schedule, respond to requests from the student population, and listen to feedback.  

Guidelines for booking Student Rec Time space

  • Times must be requested one month in advance. Since this is a new process, we will take bookings 72 hours (about 3 days) in advance.   
  • Student Rec Time is for 69´«Ã½full-time students only.
  • Spaces are booked by a designated group on campus, e.g., Business Student Society, Residence nights, AVC student groups, Engineering student groups, Campus Life Program, Student Union club groups, etc.

Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre
Fall Semester (September 22 to December 4, 2024)
Winter Semester (January 19 to April 2, 2025)

  • Sundays, Gymnasium A and/or B: 6:00–9:30 pm
  • Mondays, Gymnasium A and/or B: 8:00–10:45 pm
  • Wednesdays, Gymnasium C: 6:00–9:30 pm

69´«Ã½Turf Field 
(September 22–October 27, 2024)

  • Sundays, 5:30–7:30 pm

The times above are only for Student Rec Time and do not have a fee attached.

What activities can and cannot be played on certain courts in the main gymnasium

  • No futsal (indoor soccer) in gymnasium A or B (main court) due to possible damage to bleachers.
  • No badminton or pickleball in gymnasium A or B (main court) because there are no lines or hole posts available.
  • No cricket in gymnasium due to damage to the floor.
  • No indoor hockey, field hockey in gymnasium A or B (main court) due to possible damage to the main court floor.
  • Note the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre spaces and times are set in the Spring for the upcoming Fall and Winter semesters. The schedule of who is booked in those times and space isn’t determined until later in August with requests to be submitted to the committee.

Any other facility booking requests will cost a fee and will need to be booked by contacting Stephanie Knickle, Manager; Campus and Community Recreation - sknickle@upei.ca.

Guidelines for facility spaces and behaviour/conduct

All participants must abide by the rules and policies of the facility. Failure to comply can result in suspension from facility and programs.

  • Allowing someone else to use your identification to gain access to the 69´«Ã½Student Rec Time will result in suspension as well as notification to Student Services as a violation of the 69´«Ã½Student Code of Conduct. Providing your university identification to another student for their unauthorized access to a university building is a violation of:
    • Section 7.3 (o): unauthorized entry or access to any part of campus, or willingly allowing others to do so.
    • Section 7.3 (q): forgery, misuse, or alteration of any University document or record.
  • We will have a gym monitor present to help set up the necessary equipment, but no officials or referees will run activities or sports.  

Equipment we have

  • Athletics and Recreation has the following equipment for use in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre and the 69´«Ã½Turf. Basketball balls, outdoor soccerballs, indoor soccer balls (futsal), volleyballs, pickleball racquets and balls; ultimate frisbees; Spikeball; dodgeballs, badminton racquets and shuttles.
  • Miscellaneous items including pylons and pinnies.
  • Nets and poles for: 
    • full court volleyball
    • small court volleyball (use a badminton court with taller poles)
    • badminton
    • pickleball
