Associate Professor
BEng (Lakehead); PEng; PhD (UBC)
Dr. Andy Swingler is an expert in renewable energy systems and has more than 15 years of product-based industry experience; including serving as Head of Technology Anticipation for Schneider Electric’s global off-grid solar business. Dr. Swingler started his career as an electrician’s helper before obtaining a technologist diploma at the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology, a bachelor’s degree at Lakehead University and finally a Ph.D. degree from the University of British Columbia in 2004 – all in the field of Electrical Engineering and with a focus on power electronics for renewable energy applications. Dr. Swingler’s experience and expertise ranges across the intelligent grid spectrum from the optimal design of high-performance off-grid PV-hybrid power systems to the integration and optimization of injecting PV and stored energy directly to the grid. Dr. Swingler has designed and managed a number of pioneering micro-grid research projects in Canada and has also been active with the International Energy Association’s PVPS Task 11 and 14 multinational expert working groups.
