The Faculty of Science wishes to announce Hannah Gehrels, Masters student from the Department of Biology, will be defending her thesis, "A Study of Green Crab (Carcinus Maenas) Interactions, Cannibalism, and a first approach to model the effects of harvesting on its populations", on Wednesday, December 14 at 2 pm in Room 204 of the Duffy Science Centre. All are welcome!

The Faculty of Science wishes to announce Khalid Alshammari, Masters student, will be defending his thesis, "On the solutions of linear differential equations with polynomial coefficients", on Thursday, December 15 at 2 pm in Room 104 of the Health Sciences Building.  All are welcome!

69´«Ã½has lowered the flags in front of Kelley Memorial Building to half-mast in honour of former athletics director and 69´«Ã½Founder Barb Mullaly, who passed away on December 10 (). The flags will remain lowered until after the funeral service on Thursday, December 15 at 11 am at the Belvedere Funeral Home.  

Ethics protocols that involve ‘more than minimal risk’ must be reviewed by the full 69´«Ã½Research Ethics Board. The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday January 6 2017. They will be reviewed at the January meeting. Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve ‘more than minimal risk’, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.

The 69´«Ã½Department of Athletics and Recreation is excited to announce the 12 Days of Christmas sale! The feature for Monday, December 12 is that 69´«Ã½Staff/Faculty members can renew thier one-year membership and save 15%. Check out all 12 Days of Christmas at .  Note: Some conditions may apply.

Beginning in January 2017, the Office of the Vice-President Academic and Research will make available up to two awards per year to support the publication of manuscripts written or edited by 69´«Ã½faculty (including contract and sessional faculty). The awards of $7,500 each will be disbursed to Island Studies Press to cover publication costs (including editing, photo and other permissions, design, printing, marketing, and other costs associated with publishing a book). Authors will be offered ISP’s standard publication contract, which ensures authorial copyright and includes a royalty structure. Authors will also see their manuscript reviewed through a peer-review process.  
Deadline: May 31, 2017. Depending on demand, a second call may be made with an October deadline.

There will be a necessary, campus-wide power shutdown on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 in order to complete the high voltage power tie-in to the new School of Sustainable Design Engineering Building. The work will begin at 4:00 am and take between 2-4 hours to complete. This will result in the power being shut down for the entire campus. Emergency power will not be affected.

Facilities Management needs to do some hot water line repairs in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre and Duffy Science Centre that require a shutdown of domestic hot water for the buildings on Saturday, December 17, 2016.  Work at the Duffy Science Centre will begin at 8:00 am and is expected to take 4 hours to complete.  Work at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre will begin at 12:00 pm, and is expected to take 2 hours to complete.

This shutdown is for domestic hot water only, cold water will not be affected.
