Campus Notices

The 69传媒Healthy Campus Committee is pleased to announce the new Virgin Pulse GO (VP GO) wellness program. This program is an updated version of the 100-Day Global Challenge held in previous years.

The VP GO program is a chance to improve your health in ways that work for you. It鈥檚 an all-in-one well-being program that meets you where you鈥檙e at in life. It comes with an easy-to-use app and it鈥檚 fun. Read more

The challenge is for 69传媒faculty and staff only. There is no cost to register. All individuals and teams must be registered by Tuesday, May 4, at 11:00 pm. This deadline is firm. To register:

As part of the registration process, participants will need to complete a waiver and consent form. If you do not have a team or enough participants for a team, complete the form, and you will be assigned to a team. For forms and questions, please contact Angela Marchbank, Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, at amarchbank@upei.ca.

The Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care has implemented new guidelines for testing for STIs Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. The new guidelines recommend that individuals under the age of 30 who are sexually active with one partner (average risk) should get tested yearly.  If you have more than one partner (high risk) the recommendation is to get tested every three months.

Why get tested?

  • Both of these infections often don't show symptoms and so you may not realize you have been infected.
  • If left untreated they can lead to more serious problems including pelvic inflammatory disease/pain/infertility
  • Both conditions are curable with antibiotics and can be treated right here on campus

How do I get tested?

  • You can perform self-tests in various higher traffic public washrooms on campus and drop the specimen off at the 69传媒Health & Wellness Centre Mondays-Thursday and until noon on Fridays
  • You can request a test at the 69传媒Health & Wellness Centre
  • Health Centre staff/physicians will be offering you screening during regular appointments

What happens if my test comes back positive?

  • You will be contacted by a health care provider to come in for counseling and treatment
  • As both Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are considered Communicable Diseases under the Public Health Act the Public Health Nurses will conduct contact tracing to ensure we can treat contacts as well.

Other considerations:

  • If you are considered high risk, you could request testing for Sexually Transmitted Blood-Borne Infections (ask at the Health Centre)
  • Always wear a condom, use a dental dam - available free at the Health Centre;
  • Lower your risk by practicing safe sex
  • Get tested

It is with mixed emotions that the team at 69传媒Marketing and Communications announces that long-time Production Coordinator Michelle Gauthier has retired from the department, effective Thursday, April 29, 2021.

Although we will miss her energy, thoroughness, dependability, organizational skills, easy-going nature, and, of course, seeing her walk the trails at lunch, we wish her much health and happiness as she embarks on this next phase of her life.

Thank you, Michelle, for your tremendous dedication and service to the 69传媒 for almost 32 years! Enjoy your well-deserved retirement!

Research Talk Title:  "Regressive class models using statistical and machine learning models for trajectory risk prediction of repeated categorical outcomes" 10am-11am

Abstract:  We proposed a regressive class modeling framework using machine learning algorithms to predict the trajectory of repeated multinomial outcomes. The proposed framework divides the data for each time point, applies the statistical and machine learning algorithms to each subset, and uses the Markov chain to recombine the results for trajectory risk prediction. The proposed framework will be effective in analyzing big data collected longitudinally.

Teaching Talk titled:  "Model Selection" 1:30pm-2:30pm

Abstract:  This discussion will be on multiple linear regression and will cover such topics as:

  • What is the model selection, and how do we select the best model,
  • Aspects of model selection for the regression problems,
  • Bias-variance trade-off,
  • Validation curve,
  • Illustrations using data sets,
  • The take-home message, and
  • Python/R codes
