The Department of Pathology and Microbiology, AVC will be interviewing 4 candidates for the tenure track faculty position in Veterinary Bacteriology.  

Our final candidate, Dr. Shivani Ojha, is a board-certified microbiologist by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists in Bacteriology & Mycology.  She obtained her DVM degree and Master of Veterinary Science in Veterinary Microbiology from the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, India; and obtained her PhD in Molecular Microbiology at the University of Guelph.  She has experience in research on risk assessment and risk management of significant pathogens in ISO/IEC accredited laboratories.The use of alternative resources such as probiotics and bacteriophages to curb foodborne pathogens, E. coli O157:H7 were examined. To address the risk of necrotic enteritis in broiler chickens, vaccine development was pursued. In swine health, colonization factors of Actinobacillus suis were identified and models of A. suis infection were developed. A large part of the research has been in diagnostics on methods development to detect and source track the pathogen. Both genetic and serology-based diagnostic approaches were harnessed to detect pathogens, including, Norovirus, Coxiella burnetiiE. coli non-O157 serotypes. She is currently teaching in the VPM 4500 Diagnostic Services rotation (bacteriology and virology) to 4th year students at AVC.

Troy Life & Fire Safety will be performing the annual fire alarm inspections throughout campus beginning Friday, May 14, 2021. As part of these inspections, there will be testing of alarms. There will be an audible notification stating this is a test at the beginning of testing and again when the testing is completed. The building occupants are not required to evacuate during the testing period. The ringing of alarms is required to test their function and to ensure the speakers work throughout the building. This will be a small portion (up to 2 hours) of the total time they are in the building.

UPEI鈥檚 Student Union and Experiential Education department have partnered with Skills PEI to create the International Student Employment Support Program (ISESP). This program will offer a cohort of international students the opportunity to gain employability skills through a combination of professional development training and a paid internship this summer. 

In order to be eligible, international students must be finishing their first or second year of studies (having completed between 30 and 60 semester hours), living in Prince Edward Island for the duration of the program, and available to work during regular business hours. 

Training begins May 25th, followed by 11-week internships through the summer with local businesses, tailored to students鈥 career interests.

The Health Centred Research Clinic at 69传媒is offering a Chronic Disease Self-Management program for any 69传媒Staff or Faculty that have been diagnosed with a chronic condition for at least one year or longer.

The program will consist of weekly group exercise and education sessions at the Health Centred Research Clinic located in the lower level of the Steel Building.  In order to participate individuals must be currently employed by the 69传媒 either permanently, or a contract lasting for the duration of the program and have been diagnosed with a chronic condition for at least one year or longer.

If you are interested in learning more about this program, we will be hosting a 20 minute information Session Thursday May 13 at 12:00pm online. The March Island Lecture Series session featured Prof. Mark Stoddart (Memorial University of Newfoundland) and Dr. 脕sthildur Elva Bernhar冒sd贸ttir (University of Iceland) discussing the financial crises of Iceland and Newfoundland & Labrador. What have these experiences had in common and what lessons can they teach us?
